I have been here numerous times throughout my years as a student at UAB and WHAT a resource it is… It helped me dip my toes into healthcare as a student terrified of healthcare costs and health insurance. The team here is so great. I’ve had STI testing here, a mole removed, a skin assessment, pap smears, and IUD insertions. They do it all and they do it well! Tamara McCoy and Dr. Kathleen Pridgen do a great job. The counseling services are pretty decent too although I’ve fallen in love with my UAB hospital employee counselor more. This facility is very clean and they give out parking passes for your appt. They also have free condoms and plenty of fliers for studies and health services they offer. They are very accepting of the LGBTQ+ community as well. I’ve loved coming here for my healthcare and will be sad when I am no longer eligible after graduation.

You think submitting a waiver to UAB Health Insurance is a simple task? Think again. This institution, once a promised land of support and efficiency, has now devolved into a labyrinthine nightmare where bureaucracy reigns supreme. The very essence of what was intended to be a sanctuary of student welfare has been devoured by an indifferent, bureaucratic machine that scoffs at the notion of timely service.

Your submission? It’s a mere drop in an ocean of neglect. What was meant to be a straightforward process has morphed into an exasperating odyssey through red tape. The apathy that permeates this place is palpable, as if the staff and system have collectively decided that student concerns are secondary to the glory of their endless procedural complexities.

Don't kid yourself—your scathing review will be a fleeting murmur, swallowed by the deafening silence of an establishment that has long since ceased to care. This system is not swayed by your grievances or your pleas; it thrives on a steady stream of funding, immune to the discontent it fosters. Your frustration only fuels their indifferent machinery, ensuring that every complaint is absorbed into the void, leaving behind only the cold, unyielding embrace of an institution that has forgotten its purpose.

you don’t understand, my friend, this is not just some innocuous review; it’s a cry into the void, a futile gasp against the cold, indifferent machinery that is the Student Health and Wellness at UAB. You see, what was once supposed to be a sanctuary of care, a beacon of hope for the ailing student body, has now crumbled into a bureaucratic wasteland. No longer does it serve the noble purpose of healing; no, it’s become a soulless, government-funded abyss where compassion is a relic of the past.

But don’t fool yourself—your one-star review? It’s a whisper in a storm, lost among the countless others. This is a place where patient care and student wellbeing are sacrificed on the altar of red tape and indifference. They don’t need your approval; they don’t need your praise. Their coffers are filled, their biases reinforced by the endless stream of funding that flows unimpeded, unchallenged.

Your words will echo, unheard, in the dark halls of a system that’s long since stopped listening. If anything, your frustration, your disillusionment, only serves to fuel the very machine that grinds you down. For in this world of government-backed healthcare, where metrics replace humanity and funding replaces accountability, your voice—no matter how loud, how desperate—will be swallowed whole, leaving behind nothing but the bitter taste of defeat.

The doctors and medical staff are fantastic. But Jesus christ, ANSWER THE PHONE!!! I have never gotten this place to pick up. It's insanity. The number on Google is WRONG and I'm convinced they do that in purpose so they don't need to answer the phone ever.

I wish I could give positives but the only thing positive was maybe the people, which is one of the major moving pieces in a doctors office/clinic. Everyone was nice and friendly however I’m disappointed with everything else. For 1, I got there 15 min before my appointment time like they said and I wasn’t seen until maybe 35+ min after the appointment time. Strike 1. Major strike 2 would be the fact that details to my chart were added that were FALSE! I don’t know if they did it to make sense of some of my results or what, but what was mentioned in one of my charts was never said, insinuated, or even thought of my me, myself and I. And now onto strike 3. Results that I should have had “by the end of the day” two weeks ago and “by next week” one week ago still haven’t been sent or shown to me. I’ve contacted the person who requested these labs and still no reply after roughly 3+ days. Overall the visit itself was fine, it’s just the aftercare that concerns me the most. Seems like their major issue is timing

If you seriously value your life and your health i would highly advise you to seek elsewhere for care. I would only let student health treat me for something simple such as the flu, anything else regarding other organs in your body or other serious conditions you may have you would want to go see a licensed doctor who has been practicing for years. Student health has diagnosed me with issues without treatment and i've had to seek treatment elsewhere, I have been given medication for issues unknown to the doctor (yes unknown to the doctor) and sent on my way to have the same issues persist in the future. I've been put on the wrong medication after seeing a licensed specialist who prescribed me something specifically, so not only did student health disregard that doctors notes they tried to put me on something else completely irrelevant. The person at this time also disregarded what i said about how i was feeling, making it seem as if i had other issues. The nurses are great but the care there from doctors are sloppy. If you're waiting on results you'll receive them in about 2-4 weeks, so like i stated earlier if your life depends on it DO NOT SEE student health

The nurses and front desk women are very nice! The man that answers the phone is an absolute pain to deal with. I woke up with the flu and tried to get a same day appointment. When I expressed my disappointment in not being able to see someone today, he hung up on me. But not before giving me some attitude about making an appointment in advance. This is the third or fourth time I’ve had him hang up on me. He shouldn’t be employed here. He is an awful reflection of how the wellness center is actually ran.

Appointments are always fast and convenient, parking is typically right there, and it's copay-free for UAB students. Everything is of course clean, well kept, and professional. Some of the staff are obviously better about being polite, but it in my experience only a couple have let it interfere with their jobs or made me feel personally uncomfortable about them. Definitely a good place to go if you're a UAB student.
