If you want to receive good/accurate care, please don't go here. There are better hospitals in cambridge.

This review is on behalf of my father. We have used CHA since 2013 and the level of care in 2013 was exceptional. The doctors, Nurses and everyone involved in patient care was very attentive, listened to what the patient had to say, and gave us the chance to ask questions.
Now come 2024, My dad had a surgery at this hospital. Before the surgery, we went to the ER, I think, once a week because of gallstone pain. The ER doctors first said, there is nothing there and they don't know what's causing the pain, then they said, you have gallstones but they are not causing any inflammation. They kept saying everything was fine. In December 2023, we took him to the ER again because of the level of pain he was experiencing. They admitted him and said his gallbladder is severely inflamed and they need to take it out. so my question was "WHY did we wait to take it out?"
They did the surgery and it was complicated, but keep in mind that gallbladder removal is a simple surgery and patients go home the same day. My dad stayed in the hospital for a week and during the stay, if he needed anything or the IV machine beeping, it would take the nurse at least 45 min to come and turn it off. We brought him home and we had to take him back to the ER because he was feeling intolerable pain. Their answer of the cause of the pain is because there is a drain in place, another day was because he is constipated, and another day was there is a little bit of gallbladder still left there and that will cause pain for a while. SO, they couldn't give us a proper answer for anything.
We had to visit the ER again in february and the nurses literally rolled their eyes. he was so weak but one of the nurses, Named Giana ( she was leaning against the wall and just watching and told me to talk to the surgeon because they can't do anything) asked the EMT not to help him, he can get off by himself, when they can visibly see that he has no strength. I had to help him to the hospital bed.
They hate receiving patients. it's like they are there to talk and gossip and not work. If you hate receiving patients or helping people in general, don't be a nurse, it's not for people like you.

I came to the emergency room from CHA Somerville urgent care..I got here at 2:30 pm I didn’t wait long to go in the back to be seen, I got a ekg and bloodwork done…I was suppose to get a chest X-ray my reason for coming was chest/back pain and pain radiating down my left arm (which is urgent) so was left in the room for over an hour I got the ekg results on MyChart still no one came in to discuss the results…then someone comes to take me for my chest X-ray and again I’m waiting with no one coming to check on me at all this is awful treatment for someone that has a urgent situation everyone is nice but sometimes that is not enough anything can happen when leaving patients alone without checking on them.

Very friendly and compassionate staff. Triage, registration, and the doctor were all kind, respectful, and knowledgeable. They were quick, but also made time for me to talk and ask questions.
