I am supervisor over the coding compliance department for the Defense Health Agency. I am seeing multiple complaints of possible abuse/fraud. My father has VA insurance and was also sent a bill from collections without any warning. I advise anyone who has bills that should be covered by insurance, report them. For VA call 1-833-38V-SAFE (8-7233). For medicaid call (even if past due for coverage) 1-907-269-6279. For Tricare call 1-844-886-2206.

If they are an in-network provider:
#They are required to send the claim.
#There are time limits to filing claims, if you are billed because they did not file within the required time frame, that is illegal.
#If they bill you for charges that is left after insurance pays (other than co-pays) and you have a referral (if required) that is illegal. It is called "balance billing".
#If you are being billed but never went to them, that is illegal.

I can assure you, I will be investigating this and the more complaints the better!

Just received a text message telling me I have to pay the bill from my last emergency at Alaska Regional, I gave them my insurance card which I'm sure it was shared with them by ARH. I tried calling their number no response not even allowed to leave a message. +1(818) 873-3226. I called my insurance and was told no billing submitted yet.

I'm not sure if I paid off a scammer or the them because they texted me a weird payment link that looked fake instead of sending me a normal bill. Also if you try to contact them, it is time consuming and very challenging.

Scam artists that Alaska Regional Hospital should be ashamed to be associated with. Billing for charges that my insurance company said they have never heard of prior. I and my insurance company have both tried calling numerous times, been put on hold for 1+hours, with no response and no way to leave messages

I had an emergency in May 2019, the care I received was the best.
I thought I had paid all my bills and was finished with this horrible accident. I checked my credit score this month (Dec 2020) and discovered that a bill was sent to collections that I did not even know I had. When I received the original invoice in the summer of 2019 I disputed the amount and DEM said they would send it back to my insurance. If I still owed any balance, after they resubmitted, I would receive an updated invoice. I never heard from them again. And now I am in collections for a bill I did not know I had. Terrible customer service from billing dept. I would have paid this if I knew I had it.

Not once have they properly billed my insurance. I had requested 3-4 times for this to be done and even spoke with them while my insurance rep was on the phone. Despite all these efforts they still sent a bill, that should’ve been covered by my insurance, to collection. Regional would be doing the right thing to cease their partnership with this billing office. They need training in Shriner service, insurance policy and regulation, and PR. Every time I called it has been unpleasant and the person helping has been disrespectful and accusatory. It’s to the point where I want a different hospital just to avoid this billing service.

I'm not impressed! Apparently, I went to the E.R. in 2011 and 2013. My account was sent to a collection agency and they are saying I owe two thousand dollars on one bill. I am not sure how that bill got to be that high. I will be contacting Denali Emergency Medicine Associates!

I'm not sure what the point of carrying a insurance card is, if when you need it, or are unable to provide it NO ONE checks for it. I had a tonic clonic seizure 10/30, I was transported to prov hospital. My insurance is on file, my deductible has been met. I'm not sure where the disconnect is with hospitals now a days, but this is a daunting task with ANY emergency figuring out who bills what. I don't even remember the care I received to base my review for of them. However 6 months later vulture corner stone credit dings my credit report over a $191 bill. I have medical insurance, and now I have to wait 30 days for this bill, and several others to fall off again. its daunting and unfair. get it together prov
