I was very impressed and thankful how I was quickly seen and treated well at this hospital yesterday. It was my first time at this hospital and I know that people’s reviews are different but my expedience was absolutely a 5 start review. I checked in to ER early in the morning at around 4 am with severe abdominal pain. Surprisingly short wait time, literally in 5 minutes I was triaged and was seen by the ER doctor, Dr. Gilday, who checked me and ordered me to undergo labs and CT scan, while providing some comfort measures to treat my pain and nausea in the mean time. Imaging with CT scan was quickly done. Radiology tech was nice and professional. Later, I was found to have appendicitis as the primary diagnosis, they got me to be admitted and scheduled for surgery. I was transferred to surgical unit and got a laparoscopic surgery at about 11:00 am. Awoke from anesthesia later, feeling a lot better, and I was discharged at around 3:00 pm. The whole process only took less than 12 hours from ER check in, diagnostic work up, surgery, and to home discharge. I myself work in medical field, and I understand we all work with highly stressful environments at any medical facilities. Nevertheless, the service I received was way exceeding my expectation. I am very thankful for this seamless service. Surgeon, Dr. Turner and anesthesiologist, Dr. AAboe, and their whole surgical team were great! They took a time to throughly discuss the situation with me and gave me opportunities to address my concerns. The nurses at pre-OP and post-OP were kind and attentive. Nurse Nicole at post-OP unit is absolutely a top notch professional RN. My only suggestion is for the nurses at ER. They could be better if they identify themselves first. They did not address their names and I was not informed whether they were nurses or providers. They addressed me as “my friend” instead of verifying my name. I only got to know that one person was a nursing student when I saw his badge. I assume their intention was to be friendly, but they should verify patients by name and other identifiers to improve accuracy of care. However and overall, my first experience at this hospital was superb !!! Kudos to you everyone!

Having traveled for other medical care and being shocked at the kind, compassion and such manners of others in healthcare I can tell you something is seriously wrong at this hospital. Is it admin, is it a head nurse or charge nurse? I don't know. But the culture of sass and outright frustration basically anyone in medical roll plays in this organization is totally unnecessary. It could be a nurse, tech, NA, LPN, whatever. Shocking bad attitude and absolutely no care or compassion. Why are you here? Why are you in medical care if you cannot be kind from the moment you interact with someone. So when I tread lightly into a new region needing medical assistance I of course feared the worst (compound trauma reaction anyone?) and was then shocked when they were so sweet and kind and didn't hesitate to help and also acted nicely. To be clear I don't go anywhere and start off as a B but that'll be the reaction you get after asking a question at St Pete's. Sort it out admin stop the new culture of treating us all like dirt bags.

I just had my baby Friday morning, all the doctors and nurses did an amazing job at delivering my baby by C-section they made me feel comfortable during the prepping and the actual surgery. From the surgery to recovery to me and my baby recovering in the room, the nurses, food aid attendants did a wonderful job as well I would definitely recommend this hospital for delivery a baby and all other things medical you may need as well. Wish I could find a way to donate to this hospital. Job Amazingly done.

So many caring providers - specifically Dr. Gilday in ER and many nurses. Concern is hospital leadership. Dirty ER room with medical trash from last patient. No soap at sink. Told two hours after arriving would be admitted but in ER for 17 hours. No updates. ER nurses station filled with team members but they don’t give eye contact to help when we came forward for questions. No clear instructions on next steps. We are now on day five and my family member has not been bathed after multiple inquiries. I feel so bad for everyone working there and try to find this balance of advocating without upsetting people for fear of retaliation. What should patients and family members expect? How are we communicated with to know? It’s a scary, stressful experience - communication, regular updates, what to expect next/tomorrow would go a long way. I was born at this hospital and it just makes me so sad.

Twice my friend was taken into the emergency in very bad shape almost unconscious. The older female with short hair and big puffy face at the front was very hostile, maybe crazy? I say that because only a crazy person would be yelling at someone in a critical condition because they're being too slow to answer her, or can't be loud enough for her. Even while his blood pressure was being measured and he was supposed to not move or talk or make effort, she would not wait but yell at him to answer her quickly. No human feelings, decency or common sense. Bad position to be in. Even at prison intake nowadays they don't treat newcomers that way.

Some of the staff inside have similar attitude. Very short tempered / frustrated staff. He was being sent home almost the same as he came in. Xray, blood work and being told there was nothing wrong with him. Coming back 2 days later. Sometimes walking out of the hospital dizzy and imbalanced.

There was a few good people inside, like nurse Valentino, Dr Fox, and a couple other doctors can't recall their names.

We have been in the ER for almost 24 hours with no answers, my husband asked a nurse if she could "ask the Dexter what's going on" ( my husband just suffered a stroke so his speech and words are compromised) the nurse went outside the door and Mocked my husband, (Laughing) she says to the other nurse "he wants me to ask Dexter what's going on" (laughing again) and walked away... That if absolutely disrespectful!! Shameful behavior

I have *intense* PTSD due to prior medical trauma and maltreatment. I have extremely low expectations for health providers as a result.

But…

I’ve had two surgeries, one ER visit, and one overnight at this hospital and cannot praise the staff highly enough.

The nurses and techs in the surgery department are kind and compassionate. They did everything in their power to make me feel safe in their care - even making sure my religious item accompanied me through the procedures. I never once felt disrespected or devalued, even in the middle of a panic attack.

The nurses and techs in the neurology ward took care of me with more empathy than my own mother ever has. Managing post-surgical pain was a priority for them… not an inconvenience they didn’t want to be bothered with.

Medical/Hospital staff that makes you feel like an individually valuable human is a rarity, and I deeply value those that succeed at it.
