I was initially scheduled for two appointments back to back: a Pap smear with one physician and my annual physical with my primary care physician (all in the the same building). I got a call about an hour before my first appointment, saying that they’re unable to do the exam because the physician I was referred to does not perform the exam I needed. After being transferred to another person to further explain this issue, she told me that it was due to billing issues with my insurance and that I was only able to schedule one doctors appointment a day, and then proceeded to tell me to follow up with my insurance regarding this issue. I then called my insurance, wondering if there was a policy change but there was not; my insurance notified me that there was no billing issue and that I was OK to get both appointments done that day. My insurance followed up with the doctors office to notify them but was given the same runaround non-answer regarding why I was not able to do my pap smear appt. So I figured I would just go to my physical that was still scheduled to figure things out. I did receive an apology from the MA regarding the scheduling issue on the office’s behalf. However, when I spoke with the physician, she:
1. Said it was due to my insurance/billing
2. Then said I’m unable schedule my Pap smear before my annual physical
3. Next said that I need to space out the times between my appointments so there’s no issues with insurance
4. Lastly, she told me that I need to schedule my doctors appointments on different days so I avoid this issue in the future.
The office scheduled these appts knowing that they were back to back and what each appt entailed. All in all I received several different answers from people in that office, and it was a waste of my time to try and knock out my appointments in one day. I now have to take additional time off in order to schedule my exams that I did not receive.
