I transferred to Dr Vocal with him coming highly recommended from my best friend when my long term PCP who had been treating me almost half my life, switched specialties which meant I could no longer keep her. .

I am a complex patient and not easy to treat and was devastated to lose my long term PCP, but Dr. Vocal is a brilliant, patient and compassionate physician.

As others have said in reviews, he really does take time which means you might have to wait a bit but that's what you want in primary/internal medicine physician and I'm so grateful to be under his care, he has made a difficult situation a lot easier to bear.

Phenomenal! After many years of many, many practitioners in a variety of specialties, this man has been an absolute God sent! There is not a single appointment he's ever rushed through. No issue is ever wafted away as insignificant or unrelated; everything matters with him. Sometimes those 'little things' have been the tiny clue he needed to get to the next step or to the bottom of whatever mystery issue. When calling to schedule, even the schedulers often comment on what a nice guy or what a treasure he is, yet he doesn't schedule out super far, which is awesomely convenient!

He is very kind, very patient, very humble.. NO big doctor ego, yet the brilliant mind you would wish for to handle any complex health matter(s). He's clearly still very invested & very interested in what he does; no sign of burn out or jadedness. Having come to Fairview straight from Mayo Clinic, he brings the mentality of wanting data & proof in the form of labs, imaging & other specialist opinions, if needed - vs guessing or relying solely upon previous experiences as so many providers do. While those many providers meant well, those all too typical guessing games & rather lazy approaches have resulted in years of misery for me. He's been more than happy to address a multitude of issues as well as agreeable to working with other specialties if he or I thought seeing another provider was a good idea. His vast background has also enabled him to recognize several rare conditions immediately. I'm quite certain I wouldn't be here without this provider's care & have had the pleasure of meeting several others who've had nearly identical experiences with him.

He's not your typical 15 minute Doctor he takes his time to listen and understand what you are going through. He keeps up with medical research to help figure out your medical issues and he orders the right testing and understands the results. I was referred to him by one of the top rheumatoid arthritis Doctor in MN he told me that Dr, Vocal and Bates are one of the two smartest Doctor that he knows.
