First there is no more Banning Health Care. Approximately two years ago the facility was sold and changed the name to Sunrise Post Acute. I am writing this in late February of 2025.
I have been here 15 months, arrived on 2 December 2023.
If you are looking for a Skilled Nursing Facility my advice would be to keep looking.
This place is more of a psych facility than a nursing home. The entire property is gated and there are alarms at every entrance and exit.
The food here couldn't possibly be any worse. I truly believe the kitchen workers have no idea what they are doing.
There is a consistent turnover of CNA'S and Nursing staff. Though, the core group of those who remain are overall very good and dedicated. It is shameful what these folks are paid for such difficult and demanding work.
After watching the video showing what this place looks like all I can say is WOW! Talk about poetic license.
The only reason my rating of 2 stars, as opposed to only one is simply the incredible workers who stay and do excellent work in spite of the very difficult patients.

I think the previous post written by Frank is absolutely hilarious. I can't tell if he is more interested in talking about himself or another facility. I was at Banning Healthcare at the same time that Frank says he was there and I belive we were in two different facilities. I didn't experience and cannot share anything positive about Banning Healthcare. In fact it seemed more like a jail then a SNF.

I had my second major brain surgery at the end of April, 2022. After 4 days in the hospital, at my request, I was to be discharged to a skilled nursing facility (SNF) for rehab. Banning Healthcare was the only facility that had accepted me in time for discharge. At first, I was a bit alarmed by the negative reviews on the Internet, but I decided that I would make up my own mind. I should add here that I was not your average consumer, as I am (1) a retired social worker with a 30-year career, experienced in evaluating nursing homes for my senior clients AND (2) that I grew up as the son of nursing home administrators, so the setting was familiar for me. As an experienced geriatric social worker, please know that being discharged home is generally not the best idea. So, embrace the idea of going to a SNF, even if the idea frightens you (provided that you have good insurance coverage). I was discharged home after my first brain surgery in 2019, and it was a very bad idea, something I vowed would not be repeated this time. I was happy to learn that the Admissions Director had reached out to my emergency contacts by phone prior to my arrival, a nice touch. All that said, I was relieved to discover -- in stark contrast to the negative reviews -- that it was actually a very good facility staffed with experienced and caring professionals. All of the staff took wonderful care of me -- arriving there feeling somewhat fragile -- as I slowly recovered from an invasive surgery. My room was decorated with welcome balloons (from Activities), and a basket of toiletries and a word puzzle book (new balloons arrived toward the end of my stay!). I was glad that I had packed earplugs and a sleep mask, as you will need both in any SNF. As a social worker, it became obvious to me that this was primarily a permanent home for long-term nursing home patients, many of whom had varying degrees of dementia. As a social worker, I was pleased to see that the “memory care” (dementia) patients were not segregated from the rest of us, but rather, included, and supported. During my stay, there were several parties – a Cinco de Mayo party and a Mother’s Day party, both joyful and engaging. I participated in daily activities, in addition to having daily occupational therapy and physical therapy. The food was good. They will handle the ordering and dispensing of your medications. They even did my laundry! And, I played BINGO for the first time in 50 years! Banning Healthcare is not a fancy place; it is an older, unassuming structure. So, if you require a fancy spa-like rehab, this would not suit your needs. Here’s what I learned from 30 years as a social worker, and from growing up observing my parent’s nursing home: The MOST important quality of any rehab is not in the atmosphere, but rather, in the CARE. And what I experienced – and observed --over my 8-day stay at Banning Healthcare was skilled care, combined with kindness, compassion, attunement, and empathy. This is a staff that works as a team, and the joy they exhibit in their work – and with each other -- is obvious. I am very grateful to them for helping me bridge the time between hospitalization and home by encouraging me and helping me to feel stronger each day. I am grateful to the discharge planners who organized a referral to a local Home Health Care agency, which has already dispatched nurses, a social worker, an occupational therapist and a physical therapist. On the day of discharge, there was a delay in the pharmacy delivering my home medications, so I told them to just return the medications, as we were unable to wait any longer. I was surprised and appreciative that they mailed my medications to my home, at their own expense. And so, to sum up, I felt safe and cared for at Banning Healthcare. I recommend them highly. Not fancy, but quite wonderful. Ten days after discharge, I still smile thinking of them and looking at my welcome balloons now hanging on my apartment wall.

The name of Banning Healthcare has now been changed to sunrise postacute. I’m posting here because sunrise doesn’t have a website set up yet or a place to leave comments.
Today I was served ice cream for the third time in a week. All three times this week. The ice cream had previously melted and sat out long enough that something in it granulated and then it was re-frozen. You try to eat it and it feels like there’s sand in the ice cream.
What makes me upset is not just that I was served this more than once or twice and asked to not be served again, but there are people that aren’t able to speak up and say this doesn’t feel good or this doesn’t taste good. I don’t know how to get through to the kitchen staff to tell them not to serve me such horrible stuff let alone anyone else.
I’m sure there are better places to stay and I know there are worse places to be in then here at Banning Healthcare/sunrise post to cute. For the most part it’s OK here. There are some CNA‘s that are great and go above and beyond board to do what they have to do to make sure you’re well taken care of. It’s kind of been a bumpy ride since ownership has changed since June. I’d be interested in finding out who owns this place now. I have quite a few suggestions to make. I’ve been here nearly 2 years, so yes, I’ve had long enough to observe a lot.

My Father was sent to Banning Health several times.
It was always clean & fresh. A large living room is filled with events, decorations, music and events.

They all seem happy. My Dad was basically paralyzed and they were perfect with him.

I never smelled odor of any kind. The staff is great. The staff werevattentive and helpful.

Maybe it's better in the last 3 year's? At night I see snacks out too! Even in the rooms.

My niece is staying here following catastrophic illness. The facility is clean and welcoming. Staff is excellent; ever capable and always pleasant. I am a medical professional and tend to notice both big and small details. And here at Banning Health Care, those details seem without deficiencies.
A truly wonderful SNF. My niece is so well cared for, as are all residents. And I am so grateful.

This is the best place to send a family member if you don't care about their well-being. The staff refuse to give you updates on your family members and they don't keep accurate records throughout the day. When you call they act like they can't hear you and hang up. They let my grandmother lay in bed with vomit all over her for hours. If you care about your family you won't send them here.
Edit: when I threatened a lawsuit their phones all of a sudden started working and they were more attentive to my family. The nurse who doesn't know how to keep records name is Holly. No one knew her last name because, and I quote, "our staff changes regularly so we don't know their names." Even the coordinator didn't know anyone's names.

We went to check this place out. The entry way was full of people sitting in chairs & wheelchairs. I asked for my mother, why are they all sitting here. 'Waiting for meals'. They didn't look comfortable to say the least, all piled tightly next to each other. It seems they don't have enough room in a dining room....if they have one. The rooms were unpleasant & very noisy if you have someone with a huge, ancient looking oxygen tank nearby...hissing & banging. Nothing about this facility seemed comfortable or pleasant. I wouldn't leave my mother there., not even short term.
