After my mom died, it fell on me to take care of my dad. I chose Brightstar in this effort for many reasons, and I have been very impressed with our experience:
- I live 1,500 miles away and so was very worried about who would care for my dad. He wanted to stay in his home, and small things began to trip him up (both health and daily living). Plus he was pretty lonely.
- Since Brightstar is a licensed & insured company, I felt better about the quality and consistency of care my dad would receive. They screen their employees, and then train and treat them well, ensuring a top quality workforce for a demanding job. Dan had my business when he explained the company’s strategy for providing great care rested in attracting and retaining great talent.
- My dad’s caregivers are also supervised by a nurse (Tina and Kathy, who are both amazing) who can be an important source of knowledge and early warning when health concerns arise. Tina is the one who explained to me what seniors typically experience and need at this stage of their lives. And Kathy knows how to help my dad sort thru his meds to ensure he’s taking them correctly, and she tipped me off to a suspicious spot on my dad’s temple. If any of the caregivers have concerns, they can go to an actual nurse and work thru issues before they become problems. This is a differentiating feature for Brightstar.
- Brightstar also has a 24-hr response line for scheduling and troubleshooting. I would be lost without Megan and Estefania’s immediate responsiveness, professionalism, and support. They help me try to match caregivers to my dad’s needs, activities, and even moods. They both are creative, proactive, and smart.
- My dad’s favorite caregiver (Elizabeth) has truly been a gift to us. Dad suffers from a handful of ailments common to 85 year olds, including recently developing dementia. Having Elizabeth as a regular presence in his life has been a source of both comfort and strength in helping him live his life. She’s a hard worker, dynamite cook, and even likes to shoot pool. They get along great, and I have a sense of relief that he is living well since I can’t be there all the time.
-Brightstar has been amazingly flexible and resourceful. There was a time when my dad needed 24/7 care immediately, and they met the challenge. Brightstar gives me as much peace of mind as can be had in our situation.

I can't say enough about the care I received while suddenly being laid up after a debilitating injury. Everything from the very beginning was handled with compassion, professionalism and a personal touch, starting with Dan and Suzie, the owners. My mind was put at ease right away when Kathy the RN came to the house and set up a detailed care plan. Her experience, professionalism and warmth gave me confidence I would be well cared for. The caregivers were so very, very kind, helpful, careful knowledgeable and delightful to be with. They took care of my every need including meals, laundry showering, dressing, appointments, groceries, etc. Their kindness, compassion, and work ethic will not be forgotten. I would like to honor them by stating their names. Elizabeth, Pamela, Bella, Tray, Natasha, Brittany and Mariah. I wish them all the best.

I cannot even begin to express my level of gratitude for Carlsbad Brightstar for helping provide care for my grandmother. She fell and broke both her legs unexpectedly and needed care with only a days notice. The two people organizing care were extremely sweet helpful and flexible with how and when we communicated which was SO helpful while I was stressed handling getting my grandmother set up in general.

Not only were we able to get 8 hours of care per day with literally no notice for the whole week we needed it, but every single caretaker they sent was amazing. From Hope greeting my grandmother with “hello beautiful!” (putting a huge smile on her face every time) and trying to learn the rules to my grandmother’s favorite game to Izzy talking me through better strategies for helping move my grandmother when we’re alone - their help and compassion made this otherwise horrible experience as comfortable and easy as humanly possible. Every single caretaker was amazing.

We’re heading back home and will need to trust a new service now and I can only dream that they are as caring and helpful as everyone is at Carlsbad brightstar.

Hiring BrightStar Care was the best decision our family ever made. Dan Sweiger and his team spent a lot of time really getting to know mom and then matched her with the most perfect caregiver we could ever imagine!
Lorena, mom’s caregiver is so brilliant, educated, responsible, bubbly and fun. We are so lucky to have her and look forward to days she is here. I love hearing mom and Lorena laughing downstairs.

Mom says “She is perfect. She follows everything she is asked to do and remembers everything about my medicine, exercises, doctor’s orders. She knows everything 100%. She really cares. You can tell she really cares about me and her other clients. She is so happy to be helping. She is so sweet and has a wonderful personality. I wish all my friends my age could have a Lorena in their lives.”

She is such a blessing to me and my sisters and has really made a difference in our lives and the amazing care for our mom and giving us some relief and the possibility of me going back to work. We are so fond of Lorena – she’s like family!

Mom has so much fun with Lorena – they go for walks in the park, do exercises, dance to 50’s music, go out to lunch and do other fun things together. Mom is so much stronger and happier with all her increased activity.

We are so grateful to have BrightStar and Lorena in our lives and hope to have her here even more often in the future.

BrightStar Care is different than most in-home care companies. They have dedicated many, many hours to specified dementia training that elevates their staffs' abilities to care for your loved one. I highly recommend seeking their services for transitions as well. One on One support is important for those who are experiencing a cognitive decline. BrightStar is the best at this.

We have had the best experience with BrightStar Care, our Caregiver Kathryn is delightful, competent and compassionate exceeding all of our expectations for our Mom. She shows initiative and self-direction with our Mom and the results have been very positive. Dan and Tina were very thorough during the intake process and made the very best selection when they sent Kathryn to our home. Jasmine filled in for Kathryn the first week due to scheduling conflicts, but she was equally competent and caring to our Mom. Our home atmosphere has positively changed. Thank you Dan and Tina!
