Searching for a new primary care doctor can be really stressful. After lots of agonizing, I finally selected Dr. Jonokuchi. I am so glad I did! During our first appointment, he was warm, kind, and patient. He let me ask any questions I had and seemed to be interested in me as a whole person. He also checked if I needed any referrals to see specialists. His Medical Assistant who took my vitals was similarly very nice and professional. I also had an extremely short wait time. I am so sad Dignity Health will no longer be taking my insurance very soon, because I would have loved to make him my PCP for life!

The review I am posting is not regarding the doctor himself. He is phenomenal, thorough and has incredible bedside manner. My review is related to the complete incompetency of his staff. I have been waiting to have a medical test performed that the doctor ordered in mid August. I was told by my carrier today, they have denied the test because they have made multiple attempts to get information to no avail. When I called the office today, I was told by an extremely rude individual, they send information "when they get to it" and they are busy. I would think when dealing with people's medical needs, it would be important to complete tasks timely, rather than having the attitude of "when we get to it". Incredibly disappointing as one would think there would be better management in place.

Update: 10/10/2022. Still no follow up as promised by the office manager and I have been on hold 15 minutes just to cancel and appointment. It is truly sad that such a wonderful doctor allows his office to be run so incredibly inefficiently.

Dr. J is fantastic, but his terrible office staff earns him this single star. I have had issues with them in the past regarding not refilling routine prescriptions, and then taking weeks to get their stuff sorted out. They often don't answer the phone during their business hours, and they have a penchant for failing to follow up on anything at all. I find that you have to call them daily, sometimes for weeks, before they finally do what they're supposed to. Sadly, in reading other reviews, this seems to be a common, ongoing issue.

Today's experience finally spurred me to give them the 1 star review they desperately deserve. I had a telehealth appointment scheduled for 9AM. I took my own blood pressure and sat diligently at my desk a few minutes beforehand to await the appointment. At 9AM on the dot, I received an automated text and an email asking me to complete some forms and the check in process for an appointment next Monday afternoon. It's like the staff got a pop-up notification at my appointment time this morning, realized it wasn't going to work, and just unilaterally rescheduled it.

Since next Monday won't work with my schedule, I called the office to attempt to resolve the issue. They told me they weren't showing anything for this morning, and they only saw the one for Monday. They were lying. I know this now. After informing them that that would not work, they said Dr. J's next available appointment wasn't until late August, 2 1/2 months from now. I again explained the situation to them, and asked them if they could figure out something earlier given the circumstances. They proceeded to argue with me that Dr. J doesn't even work today, so I shouldn't have had an appointment scheduled for today anyway. Okay, fine, but I did. Then they told me he only comes into that office (Camarillo) on Mondays and Wednesdays. I informed them that it was a telehealth appointment, so which office he is in should not matter. They claimed it did matter, and so there was nothing they could do except book me for something out in August. I asked if there was anyone else I could talk to, and they said they would have their manager call me back. Given their history, I doubt that that will happen.

Well, as I was writing this review, I remembered that Dr. J had provided me the number for his Thousand Oaks office a few months ago. So, I found it and called them, and they were actually honest and helpful. They admitted that they saw the 9AM appointment for today in their system, but, since he is out today, someone rescheduled it. While he does not have any openings available until August, they offered (before I even asked) to send a note to try to work out an earlier appointment given the circumstances. The issue is not resolved yet, but it was nice to speak to someone who sounds like they will at least try to help.

Regardless of the eventual outcome, I'm leaving the single star in place, as this has been an awful experience, and it's not an isolated incident. But, I guess their Thousand Oaks office isn't too terrible. Their Camarillo office, on the other hand, is the absolute worst.

Made an zoom call appiontment months ago, and on the day of the appointment, no zoom call. Called the office, had to wait 35 minutes before anybody answered the phone. I was told Dc J. was on vacation (off course nobody took the effort to reschedule his appointments), finally I was able to speak with a life person and after another 10 minutes of her trying to figure out when I could get another appiontment, she rescheduled me for Monday @ 08:45 am, but their office doesn't open until 9 am, again on the phone waiting for somebody to speak too. Its time Dr J fires all his staff.

He takes the time to talk to you and address all of your health concerns, which is so hard to find nowadays in a primary care physician. He has never been condescending and is always kind. His staff have always been very helpful as well and seem to enjoy their work, which speaks volumes.

Dr. J has been a great doctor for me for years. I have a complex medical issue and he has not given up on me where other doctors have. He has great bedside manner and will shoot straight with you. If you want the truth he is the guy to see.

Dr. Jonokuchi has been my families dr since my first daughter was born. He was also my wifes growing up. Absolutely would recommend him to anyone that insist on having a Dr. that actually listens.
