Disclaimer: I've only been to a hospital a handful of times, so my experience it limited to 3 hospitals.
I had a very smooth delivery at CHOMP in February 2024. The staff and nurses were extremely caring and patient. The room was clean and large. My husband slept on a sofa bed. Food was pretty good, and I could control the room temperature, which was nice. The baby never left my side, everything was done in the room except the hearing test. I asked to be discharged a day early, and they were able to accommodate me. They also provided my family with a gift/ congratulations bag... their was a stuffed animal, onesie, gift card to a restaurant and blanket among under things.
Also, in April 2024, I brought my sick 3 month old into the ER and was admitted immediately. I likely saw the doctor within 15 minutes of walking in. Staff and nurses were very efficient with their procedures and time. Picture is of the ER.
Overall, it was an excellent hospital... they went above and beyond my expectations.

Update! Receptionists were so quick and efficient and empathetic. And the registrars were also very kind. Nurse Brittney was so amazing sheâs not only a super mommy but also a super nurse wow! She was so kind and caring and attentive and funny and despite having a good level 9 pain but in reality a 10ânurse Kimberly made me feel so safe and at ease unlike the last team that attended me. As a woman of color it is not easy to go in the hospital as is and she assisted me so well it felt like an older sister of mine was caring for me. She explained the medication procedure, and doctor Caccese was also very kind. They listened to my needs and provided me a more gentle option of pain relievers unlike the last team who gave me a weird big pill that eventually hurt my skin and let me sit there with a tight chest unable to breathe from some supposed flu I had. Leticia in the ultrasound department was so amazing too and as fast as possible and patient. Andres the transporter was so kind too! And a HUGE shoutout to Walter the volunteer what a wonderful man heâs always smiling and so willing to help and as a woman-of-color-Spanish-speaking-Afro-Latina I was so happy to be able to speak Spanish with him, it made me feel like home. The receptionist on main who helped me switch info was so sweet and one of them was dancing in place which also made my day I love that we need more of those healing vibes in the world! đđ the security however I could barely understand what he was saying, he was very serious to the point I had no idea where to go it was akward. But other than that I am so thankful this time. I hope the last crew the tended me learns more empathy from this crew. Thank you all God bless you. â€ïžâđ©čâïžđ„
I have to change this to a three not because of this team but I cannot leave a new review and unfortunately Saturday night I had to go to SVM this time Dr. Singh left me with a gallon of salt water Saturday afternoon, barely heard, my history and no instructions on food intake and he gave me Golytely what is supposed to be for a person whoâs had history of constipation or is to have a colonoscopy which I donât have. That was extreme for my body. I could not move anymore at night from the pain and EMT helped me with fetanyl to calm my pain hence I was in extreme pain. At that point I decided to go to SVM. SVM actually helped me out even though I think theyâre under the same medical umbrella. TBH Dr. Singh is not empathetic at all either I hope I donât get him if there is ever a time next time you can tell heâs there for the money. Nurse Kimberly was so empathic that same day and explained everything to me thoroughly. Yes Singh explained what was wrong but giving me a salt water gallon bottle and 0 aftercare instructions on food type intake was not it plus the lack of understanding my body type and history.
DR. K who saw me Friday morning was awesome and also nurse Jackie from the cardiologist who was helping to cover bcs I was nosey and asked. And the nurse before her too. also the kind lady who gave me the discharge papers I think whoâs name was Bertila. All the transporters were cool. The receptionists too except one volunteer who asked me Saturday âwhat are you here forâ instead of âhow can we help youâ lol. Everyone else but Singh was empathetic kind thank you guys. đ«¶đŸ
Oh yes and I have to add every time I go to the restroom in the ER waiting area it is so gross Iâm sorry but it wasnât fun to be in so much pain and have to move around so that I wouldnât step on someone else urine this is not the 1st time I see ER restroom in such condition. Iâm a very clean person and notice everything but as a patient thatâs even worse. I used to think it was only one time but seeing this back to back Iâve gone in this week, thatâs a huge red flag and pretty scary.
Also receptionist in MAIN could be a little more professional I went in on Thursday to pick up my car and as a prior-one-day-patient, he could have said âhow can I help?â instead of assuming I was not a patient and staring off with ârestrooms are only for patientsâ.

Absolutely Disgusting. I have thought through and through. There is no other way to put it. I have become known as The Monterey Street Warrior after telling the story of my journey to get my massive hernia repaired at Stanford. I came to California for a lifesaving operation and so far CHOMP has done nothing but tear me down. From my first visit where I was nearly patient dumped until they realized I knew a little more than they thought I knew. So I spent the night in observation while they figured out what to do with me next. I thought better sense would have prevailed but it did not. Instead, they doubled down and pushed me out the door and back out on to the street anyway. When I shared my experience with folks at the Salvation Army, people came out of the woodwork and suggested we work together towards taking legal action against chomp for neglecting medical concerns of patients who are either homeless or have medi-cal. So immediately, this has uncovered a pattern of discrimination. CHOMP - I have been through your E.R. twice now. I live streamed my first nightmare of a visit there as well as the juicy parts of the second visit yesterday when I was pushed out the door unable to walk due to weakness in my legs and feeling rather faint. There's more, but I'm going to let the the videos and live stream footage do all the talking from this point forward. Anyone with similar problems should reach out to The Monterey Street Warrior. CHOMP has gotten away with this behavior for many years and it comes to an end now. I won't make any claims that can't be put up on a screen for people to see and hear for themselves. The Monterey Street Warrior leaves no stone unturned. When it comes to documenting my experiences with others, I have become a very good at that. It's important that everyone else does the same.
So save your fake automated apologies as they mean nothing. If you folks at CHOMP want to make this right then you know what to do, otherwise good luck.

Third time's the charm? I can only say one thing. LIVESTREAM VIDEO DOESN'T LIE. CHOMP- You have demonstrated negligence on a grand scale and now, I'm going full steam. I look forward to the day I can show all the videos and livestreams in court and expose how you treat those you think are beneath you. Good day.

My husband was a recent patient at ER. The quality of nursing care has slipped since our last visit. Multiple times he had to ask for assistance to go to the bathroom. No one ever came so I helped him get out of bed & we headed to the bathroom. He had a bit of diarrhea & absolutely could not wait any longer. We asked multiple times in ER & on the floor to get a Fall Risk wrist band for him. He wasn't even asked if he'd any falls when we came in. He's unsteady on his feet & uses a cane. This wasn't documented. His prescription meds were messed up even tho both a hospitalist & a pharmacy tech reviewed info with us. To make it more aggravating, he takes several OTC meds & the CHOMP charges for them is outrageously expensive for them to
i.e., $$$ vs pennies to have them. & when they don't have a certain med, they expect you to turn your supply
over to them so they can charge you for dispensing. It would be much better to keep personal meds in a patient room & give them the correct dose at the CORRECT time, etc. The other major problem we had in the ER was the poor infection control practiced by 1 of the RNs. She would put on gloves then go about opening drawers, moving equipment, then picking up supplies tha were supposed to be handled in a sterile manner. She was just sloppy & who knows what germs, bacteria, viruses, etc she was transmitting between her patients & to my husband.
We'll think twice before coming back to this hospital. It was very disappointing to see how CHOMP quality of care has gone downhill.

I'm debating whether to change this from 2â to 1. Hubby now admitted to hospital. Nursing is trying to give him his meds but can't because the HOSPITAL PHARMACY is OUT OF STOCK OF the HEART MEDS he takes. So â am I supposed to go home & bring in our personal Rx meds & hand it over to this incompetent pharmacy so they can give OUR meds to my husband, & probably charge us for our own meds we've paid for at our local pharmacy? There is absolutely no excuse for a hospital pharmacy to run out of a common heart medication many people take! Just how bad has this hospital become. It's becoming a safety hazard for patients & the community.

Not too sure whatâs been happening to the quality but I have never in my life felt so neglected at this hospital. I never had an issues overall but two nights ago I went I since I could not breathe at all and my entire body was in pain. I am a woman of color who overall can tolerate pain and hence it can be counterproductive if just wait and leave my body to fix itself like I have in the past. I have learned that in body types like me itâs best to go to the ER immediately. Once I had an abdominal pain and the doctor at CHOMP was about to release me until he decided to to an ultrasound and found out I was actually hemorrhaging from an ovarian cysts as one out of many examples that as a woman of color when Iâm in pain even if my blood pressure is normal by the time I admit something is wrong I just know and I also know the medicine field still has not enligh knowledge on body types like mine. Now, I went in two nights ago, it was so hard to speak I wish I could have written down what was wrong instead of yelling at the receptionist since she said she couldnât hear me no kidding I couldnât breathe let alone speak. They took me to the back the guy asked me what was wrong since the receptionist did not tell him what was going on I was so delirious everything was making me laugh at the point Iâm not sure if this was my bodyâs self defense mechanism but he looked annoyed even though I apologized and explained I could not breathe I sat in that room for a while literally unable to breathe some white nurse came in and she was not nice she looked real annoyed for some reason she listened to my lungs once and said she couldnât hear properly because I was talking well yes I was answering her questions she could have checked my lungs again I was wheezing (I still am today and everything hurts still) she left had someone else do Covid RSV and flu test. I have a flu. But it was so hard to breathe I was only given a Motrin which helped a little they did ask if I wanted a pill to minimize the flu symptoms but it could cause me diarrhea I said no because Iâm already sensitive I canât even take Tylenol. Iâm unsure what else could have been done about my breathing. I just know none of the staff that night was nice except Robert in XRay and nurse Lauren. I am so embarrassed because I did not mean to act delirious I have never felt this way when I am sick. I also asked the receptionist in that department about working and I couldnât speak right and she looked very annoyed to explain I can leave my car in the empty parking slots, move it from the red zone to the empty slots. I am already independent I know but my I was so embarrassed at their treatments I preferred to run out of there if I could, I didnât have my glasses so I also couldnât see and I asked another technician or person with those rolling computers where the exit was, imagine feeling out of it already and youâre blind no one asked to accompany me outside, all she said there and theyâre going to have to open the doors for you. I was happy to know what was wrong but wow at the same time I just wanted to run away from that social treatment Im always so polite and they treated me like I was being disrespectful when I was not. Also updating the one nurse who supposedly listened to my lungsâ I asked her if she could give me a note until Friday (I know my body better and I know when I am like this itâs severe where I need enough rest) she gave me the note until Thursday. Not nice. If I end up in the ER a type of body like mine needs adequate rest and medical attention especially I rarely get sick like this and I take care of myself I do not drink or smoke or overall eat things harmful to my genetic type. Now I canât breathe I am hoping to feel better tomorrow I really needed to go to the doctor I could not breathe but I also did not have the strength to drive myself to the nearest urgent care and I also do not have absolutely anyone to drive me. I just know all of the quality care in the area has gone down since montage bought it all.

The care I received while I was hospitalized last month was fine, for the most part. The highlight during my stay was the nursing staff. Most of them were very caring and professional. The doctors always interacted with me like they were in a hurry and didn't have time for me, and were often dismissive. I was discharged before they did their due diligence to make sure they'd done all they could to provide answers and get clarification about my health. Hence, I wound up in the hospital again a week later.
Follow up: I went to CHOMP's E.R. to deal with concerning symptoms after my above-mentioned hospitalization there. The E.R. doctor was insistent that all she could do was give me pain meds and send me home. Later that same day, I went up to Stanford Medical and they admitted me for a serious condition that CHOMP could have easily discovered, had the E.R. doctor not been so dismissive and lazy. The care I got at Stanford was light years ahead of what CHOMP had to offer. I never once felt rushed by the doctors at Stanford. They were extremely thorough, professional, and took my concerns and questions seriously. My advice is to avoid CHOMP and get quality care elsewhere.

Terrible hospital experience. Lost me so much money. Sure they're under funded and and should have more hands. I'm underfunded too.. Once you're being seen and in the ER the care should be good. Instead I was treated like they're underfunded, and like they just didn't care.
I went in to have glass removed from my hand - they forgot me WHILE GETTING PAIN MEDS THEY NEVER CAME BACK WITH,
Didn't have lights or head lamps, used iphone flashlight and a random help from the hallway who made things worse. then the doctor got nervous, stitched me up with the glass still in me and running out of lidocaine. He apologized, told me to leave and take it elsewhere, then proceeded to charge $3000. His name is Max Caccese. There's no way to make this better for me, but warning people to go elsewhere. Should have tested my luck and gone to Salinas.

Was sent to L&D by my OB after a concerning appointment. When Dr.Zeidberg finally came in she didnât introduce herself or ask me any questions about what brought me in before starting a spiel about what was normal in pregnancy ( wasnât what I was experiencing) and listing off the only reasons I should come in to be seen. The whole speech ( wouldn't call it a conversation) she was talking down to my partner and I and was very belittling. It was clear she had no intention to help me. My mistake was starting at L&D instead of the ER but that was where I was sent. I was planning on coming here for my delivery but will gladly drive 40 minutes to the next nearest hospital to avoid being âtreatedâ by doctor Zeidberg.
