Core Services and Specialties

\n

The primary focus of CSMA is sleep medicine, a medical specialty concerned with the study of sleep and sleep disorders. Their services are tailored to address a wide spectrum of sleep issues, ensuring that patients receive thorough evaluations and personalized treatment plans. While operating as a medical group, their specialized niche is clearly sleep medicine. The presence of a Neurologist suggests a capacity to handle conditions where neurological factors play a significant role in sleep disturbances.

\n\n

Patients interested in learning about CSMA should understand the typical workflow. This likely involves an initial consultation to discuss sleep symptoms and medical history, followed by a potentially overnight Sleep Study (polysomnography) conducted either at an in-center facility or, in some cases, at home. These studies are crucial for diagnosing disorders such as Sleep Apnea, Insomnia, Narcolepsy, Restless Legs Syndrome, and other parasomnias. Following diagnosis, the medical team at CSMA develops treatment strategies, which may include lifestyle modifications, C-PAP therapy (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure), dental devices, or other specialized interventions, all managed under their professional guidance.

\n\n

Accessibility and Inclusivity

\n

CSMA demonstrates a commitment to patient comfort and accessibility. The practice ensures its physical location is fully wheelchair accessible, featuring an accommodating entrance, a wheelchair accessible parking lot, and a wheelchair accessible restroom. This focus on accessibility means that patients with mobility challenges can visit the practice without undue difficulty, ensuring that seeking help for sleep issues is barrier-free for everyone.

\n\n

Regarding patient volume, it is recommended that individuals plan to schedule appointments to ensure timely care. CSMA likely maintains a schedule of available slots for consultations and diagnostic testing. While the core service is medical, the practice identifies as both veteran-owned and women-owned, reflecting a commitment to diverse leadership and potentially offering care perspectives informed by these backgrounds.

\n\n

Reputation and Patient Feedback

\n

The practice maintains a presence on online platforms, notably Google My Business, where it has accumulated 49 reviews. This volume of feedback provides potential patients with valuable insights into the patient experience. The average rating across these reviews is a respectable 3.9 out of 5 stars, indicating a generally positive perception among those who have sought care at CSMA.

\n\n

When considering CSMA, prospective patients should take into account the comprehensive nature of their services, the specialized expertise available, particularly the neurologist's involvement, and the practical considerations like location and the need for appointments. For individuals experiencing persistent sleep issues—such as loud snoring, daytime fatigue, excessive sleepiness, or unusual sleep behaviors—it is advisable to explore the options offered by CSMA. Their dedicated team is positioned to conduct thorough evaluations and implement effective management strategies to improve sleep quality and enhance overall health outcomes.

\n\n

Understanding Sleep Medicine

\n

Before delving deeper into CSMA's specific offerings, it's beneficial to understand the field of sleep medicine itself. This medical specialty addresses the full spectrum of sleep disorders, recognizing that poor sleep is not merely an inconvenience but a significant health risk factor linked to conditions like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, and cognitive impairment. Common sleep disorders include, but are not limited to, Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), which involves repeated pauses in breathing during sleep; Insomnia, characterized by difficulty falling or staying asleep; Narcolepsy, a neurological disorder causing excessive daytime drowsiness and sleep attacks; and Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), an irresistible urge to move the legs, often accompanied by uncomfortable sensations, especially during rest.

\n\n

The Role of a Sleep Clinic

\n

A Sleep clinic like CSMA provides a specialized environment for the comprehensive assessment of sleep disorders. These clinics are equipped with technology to monitor various physiological parameters during sleep, such as brain activity (EEG), eye movements (EOG), muscle activity (EMG), heart rate (ECG), breathing patterns, and limb movements. This monitoring, known as a polysomnogram (PSG) or sleep study, is essential for diagnosing disorders.

\n\n

Based on the diagnosis, the sleep medicine team at CSMA will recommend an appropriate course of treatment. This could involve lifestyle changes, behavioral therapy, the use of devices, or the prescription of medications in certain cases. For Obstructive Sleep Apnea, the most common treatment is C-PAP therapy, which involves wearing a mask during sleep that delivers air pressure to keep the airways open. Compliance with treatment is crucial for managing symptoms and preventing long-term health complications.

\n\n

Why Choose CSMA

\n

When selecting a sleep medicine provider, patients have several factors to consider. CSMA offers the advantage of being a dedicated sleep medicine practice, implying a focused expertise compared to general practitioners or other medical specialties. The inclusion of a neurologist suggests the capacity to handle complex cases where neurological factors are involved.

\n\n

Practical considerations also play a role. The location in Austin provides convenience for local residents. The emphasis on accessibility ensures that patients with various physical abilities can access care. While online reviews offer anecdotal evidence, the average rating of 3.9/5 from 49 reviews suggests a generally satisfactory patient experience.

\n\n

Ultimately, if you or someone you know is struggling with sleep problems, seeking care from a specialized sleep medicine practice like CSMA is a prudent step. The team at CSMA is dedicated to understanding the underlying causes of sleep disturbances and developing a customized treatment plan to restore restful sleep, thereby improving quality of life and long-term health. Appointments are recommended, so contacting them via phone or website to schedule a consultation is the next step.

I felt compelled to write a review because I have had a GREAT experience with CSMA and almost didn't do my sleep consult/study here because of some of the negative reviews. The overnight sleep tech was especially impressive – so kind, made me feel very comfortable, and expertly troubleshooted issues that arose. The billing was also accurate. I initially thought there was an error just due to the way insurance reported it on my explanation of benefits, but once I reviewed the claims in more detail and asked CSMA for clarification, it all made sense and was accurate. I would definitely recommend this clinic to others!

My insurance appeal dept just gave a whole different explanation for the extra 50$ fee. When the clinic submit the bill it shows a 50$ charge but it does not clearly day that I paid the 50$. After I reviewed the bill it clearly doesn't show it was paid. Now I have to make them give me a reciept for the copay.

I was told by the insurance that a doctors office can still charge even if you dont take a test which i still feel isnt honest but the insurance told me that its like a car shop. But they did try and make me still pay the copay and i still have a problem with that. I did call first and asked how much the copay was. I was not told it would be 50$ per test I wss told it would be 50$. So I feel the office wasn't honest about the copay. They could do possibly three test and I have no way to know becsuse I wss told it would be 50$.

The main issue is that i was hoping this clinic would help clarify that I have insomnia. I believe the website says they can diagnosis it. I was told after my appointment I have sleep apnea. I have had a lot of trouble sleeping. The clinician did explain that the one night sleep study doesn't diagnose insomnia so perhaps there needs to be more explanation on that as my own primary doctor thought the same thing. The clinic is helping me to address the sleep apnea issue and I hope to be getting even more sleep soon!!
There report showed I am only getting maybe 26 min of rem 3 sleep which is about what my watch says.

The only other advise I have is the clinic ended up using nation wide medical for my machine. Most of there staff seem to be Hispanic or Indian people. They have really bad reviews. A lady called me the other day saying they will report me to the insurance since I couldn't use the mask four hours. She didn't ask me anything so make sure you read the reviews of nationwide medical before using them. They got me the machine quickly but otherwise not that great. It was also nice someone came to help set it up.

It is now dec I am still getting charges from national wide medical so I really don't recommend using them. I've returned the devise over five months ago!

I switched to Comprehensive Sleep Medicine earlier this year because I was unhappy with my other sleep clinic. And boy let me tell you how that has been a total mistake. People on other review platforms speak extensively about their admin staff as well as the nurses and they are absolutely correct.

I have never once in my life experienced such disinterest by a team to a patient. If you need a prescription, GOOD LUCK. You will have to babysit them every step of the way and they will STILL drop the ball.

Need to leave a message so the nurse can get back to you? Too bad, they won't. How about trying to message the clinic through their portal? Also too bad. Nobody will reply.

I've never cried because of a bad experience seeing a clinic or doctor but when I called my health insurance today only to learn that CSMA had never sent in the necessary prior-authorization paperwork for a narcolepsy medication I desperately needed, I sobbed for 20 minutes. I had been babysitting them as much as I could and they still have not managed to get anything right.

I have so much more I could say but stay away. This place is a nightmare and I'm going straight back to the other sleep clinic I was at before. The problems the old one had pale in comparison to this terrible excuse for a practice.

I will be writing this review on every platform I can find.

The service has been fine
But they have terrible billing. Please request their detailed billing. And check it line by line and compare it to your EOB from Insurance. They overcharged me. And when I initially requested a refund they would say our billing says we don't owe you anything. We'll, they charge you mysterious things so they don't have to refund you.

There were two lines in my bill called "old credit balance" and "sleep study credit". This is money they should have refunded but just charge you mysteriously for it to balance their books. It yas been almost a year from this and I have been calling and emailing them for 3 months and I still have not received my refund.

I did not have a good experience with Comprehensive Sleep Medicine Associates. I cannot say anything about my doctor because he/she never met with me--it was practitioners & techs. My issue was primarily with their billing, which was consistently erroneous to the point of 1 1/2 years of contacting them between calling, writing letters, and sending emails to try to get the bills corrected. They were misapplying payments and charges were not aligned with my insurance Explanation of Benefits. Sometimes I wouldn't receive responses to my emails with the billing department for weeks, even up to 3 months, and I often had to resend emails or followup to ask for assistance again. It was highly unprofessional and over more than a year, they never satisfactorily resolved my issues. So I've found a new doctor.

They were very thorough in diagnosing my sleep apnea, about 4 years ago. They have been tracking my usage over time and making adjustments as necessary. Ms. Hernandez, P.A., has been working with me for about a year. I'm very comfortable with her and impressed by her. I can't give 5 stars because I have had trouble with their billing office (which is in North Carolina) and with their main office in The Woodlands, Texas, in obtaining routine shipments of CPAP supplies. The care has been very good, and I will stay with them for now.

All staff and clinicians have been friendly and compassionate. Facility for the study was clean and as comfortable as you'd expect for this type of thing. Post-sleep study I've had several follow up visits as we work to best manage my new diagnosis thru medication (narcolepsy!). Nothing pushed on me that I wasn't comfortable with and feel confident in Kitzia's management of my care.

My husband received attention via zoom, they call first to collect the copayment, they never called my husband, then they sent a bill for a no show appt. I do called the billing department, but they did not care and sent another bill, I did not have the choice to send the payment. I do have the proof that they never called us. They are looking just for money, they don't care about their patients.
