Giving 1 star, because some of the staff have been very nice. When my mother was in the ER I made a decision about her care based on information provided at the time. Family decided for comfort care as we were told she would be admitted for it. On less than 24 hoy they decided to transfer her to another facility for hospice. If I had known she was going to be transferred in less than 24 hours to places with low quality of care ( choices offered) my decision will had been different.

I don’t recommend bringing your kids here my son fell down and hurt his arm nothing was broken but my wife and I rushed him to the emergency room as fast as we could. While we was there for hours they took it upon themselves to file a 51 an against us claiming abuse. Which is a pretty serious allegation. Dcf showed up and did there investigation and even told us to never go to there hospital again. I should not be scared to take my children to the hospital when they get hurt. Looking into suing them for there false allegations and defamation of character

My mom was taken to the ER Saturday around 12am. At first everyone was supper attentive. She wasn’t able to talk and was in and out of consciousness. The first two nights were fine. Nurses were nice and doctors listened. She was doing better the second day and it looked hopeful that she would return to normal but unfortunately on her last day she started getting worse. She wasn’t able to walk down the hall without a headache and nausea. Barely could keep herself up with a walker. Was told that she needed to be discharged today and that they wouldn’t keep her. Mind you they didn’t send any PT to see how she was doing mobility wise until her last day when I asked about it the night before. Truly baffles me that they would send her home unable to walk across the hall. Unfortunately this isn’t the first time my family has dealt with Cooley being horrible and not listening. (My grandma has diabetes and they gave her too much insulin which almost killed her.) When I tried to talk about her staying they were condescending and rude. Didn’t take my concerns seriously and gave me minimal human kindness. They also didn’t offer any type of bathing for the three days she was there and honestly that’s just gross of them. My mom went to other hospitals where they have offered sponge baths everyday. Horrible care

The previous review by Sally R. was inaccurate. I am her husband and want everyone to know the staff here is incredible. I have developed a new appreciation for what the nurses and staff go through on a daily basis. Please disregard Sally’s review. The nurses and doctors in CCU are very patient, kind, and understanding. I thank them for all they do and we wouldn't of got through this without them. Thank you CCU at @ Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

I've had multiple immediate family members who would have died at this hospital if not for being transferred and/or getting a second opinion elsewhere. I am not sure if they are negligent or simply understaffed, but just recently my mother with a history of heart failure went to their ER with extremely high blood pressure. They sent her home with that blood pressure without treating her whatsoever. Now she is being admitted at a different ER. Only send your family here if you don't care about them.

What kind of emergency room CARE is appropriate when an attendant (nurse) gives? a patient a couple of pads and tell the patient to clean the wounds on her knees( after falling on iced cement stairs and is bleeding from both knees to clean her own wounds and bandage the wounds herself)? Yep, this happened to my daughter yesterday at Cooley Dickinson Hospital!!!

Worst hospital I’ve ever been to. Brought my 86-year-old mother there because she was in severe pain. They made her wait in the waiting room for five hours. Then brought her to her to a bed in a dirty hallway. And we were there for another four hours. She had no food or drink for nine hours. Criminals in prison are treated better than that. After a three hour wait in the waiting room, I asked one of the receptionist, a young, male about the wait for my elderly mother who is in severe pain. He was rude, full of bad attitude and very uncompassionate.
I explained to the ER staff that my mother only had one weak kidney. But they proceeded to wanting to give her morphine for the pain. Which, of course, is excreted through the kidney. I knew all they needed to do was give her a CT scan. I knew that nine hours ago but seven hours into the wait they finally decided to give her a CT scan. I asked them if they were going to do contrast because that gets excreted through the kidney too, and I’m not sure how much her kidney can take, they told me no, but they proceeded to give her contrast. when we were leaving the ER, one of the Instructions from the nurse was to take Tylenol or ibuprofen for the pain. I had to tell the trained nurse that she was not allowed to take ibuprofen because it will hurt her kidney. I know more about Medical issues, then the “trained” Staff. After a nine hour wait they had the nerve to say “if the symptoms get worse come back.” Who would want to go back under these circumstances? On top of it all they want payment for the type of treatment they give.

I went to the ER for severe abdominal pain (which did turn out to be appendicitis) and it took 2.5 hours to even see me, for something that is life-threatening. I was then left on a hallway bed for an hour or so doubled over in pain and was told that I could not be given meds until a doctor arrived, which makes sense, only for it to take an inordinate amount of time before someone came over to give me pain medication. After finally being seen by the ER doctor, I then spent another few hours in the hallway. I got there during the night and could not fall asleep because my bed was right under a fluorescent light. I would have loved to have an actual room in the ER, especially given how tired I was and the amount of pain I was in; people kept giving me judgmental looks even though appendicitis pain is excruciating!

They are doing what they can with what they have. The ER construction/remodel has vastly reduced the number of actual rooms that they have for patients. Plus, the night I went, they were incredibly short-staffed because a few nurses and ER techs called out. I thought I picked a "bad" night to go, but reading the reviews, this sounds about average for Cooley's ER nowadays.

I was then admitted to a real room where my quality of care improved exponentially. Even with the characteristic Cooley delays (something I noticed throughout my stay there), the floor staff were a lot more apologetic, a lot more helpful, and a lot more receptive to my needs.
