This hospital campus is fine, I'd roughly give it a 3.5 if I could. It's certainly better than St. Vincent. Most of the employees are friendly and do try. I will say that it being one of the biggest and top rated hospitals in the entire midwest is a bit worrying, but it's a huge hospital and some departments are much better than others. Their GI department is decent, I'd recommend Dr. Deane Smith for anyone concerned about colon cancer. Putting all of this aside, St. Louis' hospitals probably offer better expertise and patient stay if you think your situation is fairly complex or feel it's crucial you get proper care. Being a native of Evansville for 24 years, I find that places within crucial industries of any kind in the Tri-State tend to be tainted by the area's stubbornly outdated attitude, and they're either hit or miss.

We had to take my teenage daughter in through the ER on Easter Sunday of all times which obviously resulted in a very long wait time to make it back to the treatment area and again to get an actual room once she was admitted inpatient; however, even considering this (which was beyond their control) every department and every employee from nurses, transport, support staff and doctors gave the absolute best service possible.

She she was treated in both the ER & Pediatric Wing at Gateway and was seen by the ER, Surgical, Pediatric & Pediatric GI Physicians as well as given excellent care by the nurse staff in both departments. I want to add that she came off the rails a couple of times and downright difficult numerous times, but the nursing staff remained professional, calm, compassionate, and consistently managed to provide the care ordered by all involved physicians. I also think it's notable the actual care and concern exhibited by her Treatment Team and how well they all worked together. Each step of the way, they all thoroughly explained what was going on and answered all questions for us. I was impressed by how well they were able to explain things to my daughter in terms that she could grasp.

In addition to the phenomenal care, the hospital itself is extremely nice and extremely clean. I also found it easy to navigate through and appreciate their generous visiting hours and visitation policies, which are the most family friendly I've ever personally experienced.

Obviously, nobody wants to wind up in the ER or hospital, but if you find yourself needing either, Deaconess Gateway is truly the place to go. I'm beyond thankful for the care, treatment, facilities, and accommodation we received, especially at a very scary time for us!!!!!

I selected one star because I had to in order to leave a review. Angel I told you and the other staff members that I was going to leave a review and here it is.
I arrived at the hospital on January 27th and stayed until today January the 29th I was incoherent and my blood pressure was 230/120. When the paramedics arrived they asked me which hospital did I wish to go to and I chose Deaconess Gateway even though I live less than a mile from Ascension St Vincent, I wanted to go to Deaconess Gateway. Because of the impeccable care that I had received in the previous years.. This time was a total nightmare. RN Kennedy, brought me medicine 2 different times in the same day with no water and she was training student and she needs to be trained. I put some ice in my mouth and the medicine and ice dissolved in my mouth. Lunch time she came again with meds and no water. Kennedy and Angel are rude with absolutely no bedside manners. Angel was so hateful and disrespectful made her leave my room after she caused my blood pressure to rise to 211/110. This was the very thing I was admitted for. RN Tori she's awesome she came in and was able to get my BP down to 110/70. The phlebotomist are incompetent probing around in my arm. Put needle in your arm and then play find the vein. My arm is bruised up like I was attacked. I got fed up with them today and left. I will followup with my primary physician and I will be telling her about my experience. The doctor wanted to do further testing I decided to leave because they were now causing my blood pressure to rise with all the chaos and confusion. I'm 64 years old in previous years I worked in law enforcement and have had to deal with all kinds of people but I have never seen people like the ones working at Deaconess Gateway. I'm elderly and the way they treated me is unacceptable and I won't be back. I now know why your overall rating is 3.3. Animals in shelters receive better treatment.
RN Tori was awesome and I wish you much success in everything that you do! God bless you 😁

The food is not good, and the emergency room is extremely slow, the doctors that work in there mostly sit and type stuff. They also have bad attitudes at times. They order unnecessary tests, and prolong the stays. They are not that great and there should be two times more rooms and 5 times more doctors to speed things up.

Was seen in the ER by Dr. Daum. He was extremely rude and unprofessional as well with all the staff I interacted with. As soon as he walked into the room he asked why I didn’t go to my primary care, it was 6am and no place was open and I was in extreme pain and discomfort. I work in healthcare and can understand being annoyed and overwhelmed but treating patients with attitude and no remorse is incredibly heartbreaking. I will not be going back to deaconess.

This has been the worst experience. Nurses were nice but my pain was never managed from the start after back surgery. Hardware and all installed. Im leaving today in the same pain I've been in for 3 days. Don't come if you have a high pain tolerance...you'll be punished because people abuse the system. That means those of us that need it, don't get the care we need.

I just t want to say how thankful I am to have been flown to Gateway Hospital. I have been here almost 2 weeks on the neurocardiac floor and as a nurse, I am very picky about my care but hands down, 5 out of 5 stars from the doctors. Nurses. Techs, housekeeping , dietary, PT and OT. I am a nurse so know what to expect so may be a little judgy but these people are top notch in the care they have provided. Thank you for all you do and for being in it for the right reasons. God bless each of you❤️
