Checked in online like usual and went and sat down with my daughter at 8am.We were 30 mins early so I knew we would wait. Our appointment was at 830.9 I ask them what’s going on.Lady at the desk never checked us in on her end!never had that issue before in the 5 years we have been going.I did nothing differently from any other appointment.we were there for an hr and half total and never seen!lady at the front desk was rude. Blamed me for us not being seen. Instead of trying to get us in asap I was told it would be longer after other appointments. I asked for transfer papers instead. I was told I could not have my children’s medical records!(I didn’t even ask for them but still was told this). That’s a huge red flag for me. I had to argue to get a note for my child’s school stating we showed up.i was told since we wasn’t seen we couldn’t have one. I finally received one after arguing and telling them I wasn’t leaving without something. also not impressed with the doctor.i had already been considering switching.it seems to be bare minimum at that office. I don’t feel appointments are as thorough as I have had with other doctors.its like they just want to get you in and out of there.

Its crazy that everyone has these stories abt ms.harpenau because i too have one to share! I thought I posted it on here but it seems it’s been removed!

My 5 year old at the time of this incident was having a very hard time in school behavioral wise. My daughters behavior was so extreme that her teachers encouraged me to get her tested for adhd, seeing her behavior at home and now with school getting worse, I decided to ask ms.harpenau if we could get her tested for adhd… in return? Ms.harpenau called DCS on me and had them come to our home saying she thought that we were abusing my child.. when I asked her why she took these steps instead int asking me personally she lied and claimed that it was part of the “process” and that was the only way she could perform a adhd testing on her.

To my shock I immediately changed my childrens doctor.. also, I noticed she never really took a liking to me and my kids. Whenever we would come and get seen by her she didn’t have ur typical family orientated, warm welcoming arms that u would be use to as a Dr. U could tell she was only there to do her job and that was it, or atleast that’s the feeling I got with my family and her. Im not one to put down the race card, but I do think it had a effect on how she cared for my kids and treated / singled me out for simply just being concerned for my daughters behavior.

UPDATE 2: The number they posted below in response is just the number to their switchboard 🤦‍♀️😂 So the person answering was confused to receive my call. I eventually made it to their customer relations person who forwarded my claim and they did call back and leave a message. They said they had billed it as a well visit as well as a normal visit because of what had been talked about in the visit. When Dr. Harpenau asked if I had any concerns I had pointed to a bump on his foot and said "I'm not worried about this but he does have it." She agreed that it didn't look worrisome. He was already in the early development program where we used to live so she also submitted a referral for him to continue with the program here. We spoke for 10-15 minutes. So I guess regardless if you are a new patient or not, for anyone not looking to get double billed for a well visit, I suggest finding a different practice or not talking to the doctor 😁

Our previous pediatrician saw all four of my kids for two years and was the absolute best... she addressed any concerns we brought up at well visits (dairy allergies, asthma, digestion issues, anxiety, rashes, bed wetting, speech and developmental delays, etc) thoroughly and completely while referring us to other specialists and never charged for something more than a well visit. If you're not having an extensively lengthened visit or asking for specialized care I think that's how it should be. Hoping we can find a new Dr/office with better (/local) billing.
End of updated update

--- --- ---

An update to my previous review in which they asked me to contact them for resolution over a billing dispute (we were double billed for an appointment for being "new patients"--as in my insurance paid the cost of the well visit, but then they also billed me on top of that for the cost of a "new patient appointment").

I contacted them and was told it would be looked into, in the meantime it's been weeks and I continually get emails and bills in the mail asking me to pay my overdue bill (that they are supposedly "investigating").

It seems they outsource their billing to a foreign labor center...it's impossible to have an actual conversation with a person over something that should be incredibly easy to resolve.

Paid the bill and will now be looking for a doctor that has normal billing customer service...doesn't matter what kind of provider it is if you can't get a question about your bill answered in two months' time 😑

We liked Dr Harpenau and the office, but I took my two year old in for a well care visit and was just charged $55 because they double billed it as a preventative checkup and a "new patient office visit" which insurance said they can do (she said some places do some places don't). We've moved to three different states and this is the first time I've ever been charged after a well care visit for being a new patient... Hoping to get it cleared up because we would have called around and found a provider who does not charge for this if I had even known it was an option to be billed after a well visit. With four kids we'd be paying over $200 every time we relocate for basic preventative care (after an office visit that was no longer than our normal routine checkups). Seems like predatory billing. Practices like this discourage me from even wanting to take four kids in for well care checkups in a new place where I would assume everything is covered and now I don't know what I could be billed for 😑

I have only just started taking my son to Dr Harpenau a couple weeks ago but she really seems like a down to earth doctor. One that cares and will listen to the parents concerns instead of just blowing them off thinking they are just worrying to much. Because that's one thing I can't handle is a doctor blowing my concerns off. But she actual takes time to address all concerns instead of rushing out the door.

My son has been going to her for about year and half. We transferred to her once my sons original pedi retired (Dr goldman).
However up until now I was pleased with her. My child has protein in his urine and other symptoms that show kidney issues/diabetes and she doesn't want to do further testing! So we are finding a new pediatrician! Very unhappy!
