Fraudulent Insurance Claim filed for glasses (lenses only) I do not have and paid half for please read on- Note I put in a complaint to BBB and the Attorney General - company doesn't answer complaints sent to either

I went in and had my eyes examined at Eye Care of IA. I paid my co-insurance of $10.00. I really didn't like any of the frames that they had available. So, I didn't get any. I went back at a later time 11/20/24 with my old glasses. They took the old glasses and were ordering my lenses and would replace them. I paid $60.60 for this with a remaining balance of $40.40. When I went in to pick them up, I could see out of the lens, it was way too blurry. They insisted that they couldn't do anything until I wore them for 2 weeks. Saying it was because of me using reading glasses that morning. I know this made no difference because I always used my previous glasses even though I wore readers. I wanted my glasses back the way they were or the lens fixed even if it meant another appointment to get the prescription corrected. Still no, nothing unless I wore them for 2 weeks. I use my glasses (distance) to drive with, I couldn't see to drive with them, no point in taking them home and using them. I wouldn't do this, they said there was nothing they could do for me. I left very upset. I went back asking for help 2 more times, the second time the manager put my old lenses back into my frames (not put in well enough for me to wear them) and she gave them back to me. I thought this also meant that I would get my $60.60 back onto my card. Not only did I not get my money back, I received a bill this weekend for $40.40. So they were charging me and the insurance for frames and lenses I never had. I checked with my insurance today, they charged they charged them $223.00 for frames and lenses. I never got any of their frames and lenses. I do want my money back and the bill forgiven, since I had nothing for this amount. Remember the charge for seeing the optometrist was paid by me $10 and the insurance company $398.00 (plus the pic of eyes separately) paid in full.

Service has really gone down hill since the company was bought out. My daughter and I have the same insurance, we both have the same genetic disorder that can lead to retinal detachment. My daughter was charged $39 for an eye photo and I wasn't charged for it. I was speaking to the front desk and I hear oops and the line goes dead. I wait for a reasonable amount of time for him to call me back because he had my name, my daughter's name and my phone number. No call back. I called to speak to the office manager. She will be out of the office til next week sometime maybe. I wasn't happy during my visit too. Didn't answer my questions and literally the fastest eye exam ever. In and out in 15 mins? Sounds great but I had questions. I was told they weren't doing eye dilation anymore because they have this new camera that didn't make it necessary I wasn't charged but my daughter was, even though they don't do eye dialation anymore. I really liked the old business but I have had enough of their just treating you like a number on an assembly line. Then hanging up on a person and not even having the courtesy to call them back.
Edit: Spoke to my daughter, she mentioned she got a voicemail from this company and the VM was literally only “Awkward” and hung up. I called back after finding this out and was told he went to the bank. Damn these people don’t have any customer service! Not he isn’t here can I help you? He went to the bank. Lazy, I would fire all three people I talked to for not trying to help a customer.

Hands down worst Eyecare facility I have ever been to. I ordered contacts and “Janae” was so proud to tell me a text was sent! (Which I never got) And extremely rude and snarky. Every office I have been to has had the courtesy to at least call, even if contacts are waiting. Not to mention trying to get the staff and doctor to understand the lenses they put me in didn’t work, they suggested I wear them over the weekend, after explaining I literally can’t see when I drive and I am a hazard to other drivers, “just gotta get used to them.” Doesn’t work when you can’t see. Go somewhere else, we will. Ridiculous.

Doctor took a day off so all appointments were cancelled that day. We had set appt for 6 months. They did NOT make any concessions for rescheduling so we were told there was nothing available for 5 MONTHS! I pushed for something sooner as my child was leaving on a trip, and we wanted them seen beforehand. We were able to get in 2 weeks before they were to leave, but due to a recent birthday, they've now aged out of my insurance. This should have all been handled in a more TIMELY fashion to avoid this. Unacceptable. I still give 3 stars because when they have been seen, doctors are good.
**Update: called on a Monday morning to request an email of same child's last prescription. They are closed on Mondays. Didn't hear back on Tues, Wed or Thurs. I had to go in and ask for it. It took 2 seconds to print out. Why couldn't it be emailed before this? Terrible.

My experience with Eye Care of Iowa was unique in that I did not have an appointment with them, nor did I purchase eyewear from them. I smashed my glasses (purchased in Brazil, since we are missionaries) on a Friday night and they were super loose and ready to break at any minute. I was upset since we had an important wedding on Saturday afternoon and I knew I would not be able to wear them in the condition they were in. I got online and found out that Eye Care was very close to where we live so I decided I would just try going to see if they could be fixed. Not only was I greeted warmly by the lady at the front desk, but within about ten minutes my glasses were fixed, cleaned perfectly AND, at no charge!! Thank you, Ankeny Eye Care of Iowa!!

My entire experience was great! I was warmly greeted by everyone here. It was a Saturday morning so none of us probably really wanted to be there 😉 but I was made to feel so comfortable and not rushed at all.

Dr. Nesheim explained the details of exam procedure and happily answered my several questions and concerns. In choosing my frames I was given so many options and I wasn’t urged to spend more. GREAT team!

I received my annual check-up. Everything went as I expected. Dr. Mehrl was great - she is very professional and knowledgeable. Also, they have a great new machine that takes pictures of the eyes so I didn't have to have my eyes dilated yesterday. She explained the pics of my eyes and what to watch for in the future. There was no pressure from anyone. Actually, everyone I interacted with were very friendly.

This is a well located, well maintained office. All of the employees are helpful. The scheduling needs improvement. Patients are requested to arrive 15 min. before their appointment time. I met this request only to have to wait about 30 minutes after my appontment time to see the MD.
