When I was a teenager in 2012, I was sent here for a suicide attempt. I now work in a Psychiatric hospital as a clinical social worker. Hoping to help kids like me. Thanks for inspiring me to have hope for the future. Pretty nice facility, back then at least

That being said, I came to staff with a concern that my roommate would hurt me after being threatened. They marked me down as having psychotic features which I did not have instead of considering the reality. I even had a witness. I know you all are around people with AVH and delusions everyday, but try to consider the possibility that there may be some truth behind what pts may be claiming

I was sent here when I was 14 twice. It was the best two hospital experiences. The activities are great, the staff is great, the food is decent, the hospital itself is clean and comfortable. Only one nurse was always rude but the other nurses helped a lot. The activity center has the best people, they helped me break out of my shell within one day of being in there. They reward you of good behavior. I got Chinese food once. It was overall really great.

I honestly loved it here... i was admitted on Jan 30 and was discharged on Feb 11. Some of the staffs can be rude but I liked a lot of them.... obviously not Martha. Im really going to miss Matthew (called him a drug dealer), Jojie (he gave a set of cards before I left... he was fun to talk to... i always called him grandpa and made fun of his white hair... "Are your parents coming today because we need to talk" ), Brie (someone who I just really liked), Jamie (my mom... dont worry im not the only one... she said she had a lot of baby daddies), Joseline (she was just so nice and pure), Froylan (jokes a lot with a serious face), Lamar (sometimes he can be strict but he can be fun to talk to), Edwin (idk he always looks tired), Hannah (shes really nice and reminds me of my grandma), and other really nice staffs. They most likely won't remember me but I will always remember and thank them. - Su/Subin

It's almost a year since I received a call that my son has been admitted to this hospital. The thought of my son in a mental hospital was overwhelming. I wish Dr Kim was less clinical in her approach, add a little warmth and compassion towards a mother who flew for 21 hours from South Africa to receive the news that her son has a mental illness. Give feedback with an understanding that everything was new to me and as a caring mother I needed to know reasons for keeping him longer in hospital. Otherwise, I believe she is a brilliant psychiatrist who didn't rush into making a diagnosis without a full assessment/evaluation.
Antonio, the social worker was good with giving whatever feedback he had.
My son was happy with the nursing staff and the food provided. With the South African Rand/Dollar exchange rate it would have cost my family a fortune to pay for the facility; I was grateful for the service.
Keep up the good work of caring for those who can't care for themselves.
Khumo is stable - seeing a good psychiatrist and clinical psychologist in Johannesburg, South Africa.

I was a patient there in the Girls' Adolescent unit for eight days. The staff were nice and caring. The cleanliness was pretty good. The food could use some work, but at least they feed you. The activities are the best. A lot of games, rules, but they are just trying to help. Martha was mean, but warmed up to me. Jojie was the best, let me play kpop and my nickname was kpop, call him Jojie with the bow bow and tell him kpop said that. Gloria is cool too.Ice and fruit punch are the best. But, the meds are uggghhhh..... but they help. This was my experience. Admitted: 4/5/19

People that work at Gateways do so because they care. This place is not like other hospitals that are private hospitals and all they care about is your money and insurance companies. Gateways doctors are very knowledgeable and caring, no matter who you get assigned to. The social workers do their best to help you get situated once you leave the hospital. I didn't care much for the rest of the patients, but that's how it is any other hospital. I was fortunate to have a relatively good roommate. The food is ok.. just like other places. I spent about 3 weeks here and I have to say, they weren't rushing me out of here like they did at Silverlake, BHC Alhambra, and Charter Oaks Hospitals. I hope your experience will be as excellent as mine.

I owe everything to this hospital that took my mother in when nobody else would. There's nothing I can ever do to pay everything back. Just when I think the mental health care system in this country is broken, I think of this hospital and a sigh of relief comes over me.

They treat their patients with a lot of love and logic. "If you don't take your medicine, you won't get visits from your family," they'd tell my mom. It was the speediest recovery from her mental condition that I had ever witnessed. No shouting; no getting down to the level of the patients-- they treated us like family and they never seemed to tire from persisting with my mom's treatment (trust me, I've seen all of the above in mental institutions).

Your family is in good hands out here.
