Avoid going to see Dr. Joseph Hahn at all costs, he is disrespectful to patients that are already going through it. Do not waste your time on this doctor if you're in severe pain because he only wants perfect patients with zero health risk. If you're interested in being belittled for a history of smoking or drinking and a lecture about why you're not a candidate for his office, this is the doctor to see. My father left his office with no hope for himself or his future, worried he will soon be completely unable to walk.

Subject: Honest Review of Dr. Hahn - Orthopedic Surgeon (Berkeley Springs and Petersburg, WV) 😞

I'm sharing my mother's unfortunate experience with Dr. Hahn, an orthopedic surgeon with Valley Health in the Berkeley Springs location. (Also has a practice in Petersburg) The overall encounter has been disheartening, and I am compelled to provide this feedback.

Background:
My mother, dealing with hip pain and arthritis, sought Dr. Haun's assistance for around 8 months. While acknowledging medical protocols, Dr. Hahn's approach lacked compassion and empathy.

Inappropriate Weight Loss Expectations:
Despite being overweight for most of her life, my mother was advised to undergo hip surgery due to bone-on-bone narrowing. Dr. Hahn's suggestion that she needed to lose a "WHOLE person" before he would consider surgery was not only inappropriate but unprofessional.

Weight Loss Journey:
Over the past 8 months, my mother demonstrated commitment by losing 50 lbs. However, Dr. Haun persisted in being negative and refused surgery, impacting her quality of life, especially after he initially suggested surgery in March.

Insensitive Follow-up Appointment:
During a recent follow-up, Dr. Hahn displayed a lack of sensitivity. He commented that my mother was "too big" for his staff to lift, despite her current weight being around 260lbs. He further mentioned that her surgery would require more work and time, mentioning nothing about health risks. Gaslighting ensued when I expressed concern about his choice of words. In a previous visit, he had linked surgery to further weight loss, only to contradict himself later, stating that weight loss alone would repair the issue. (which it won’t)

Refusal of Physician Paperwork:
Adding to the disappointment, Dr. Hahn refused to complete physician paperwork (1/2 page) for my mother's short-term disability, putting her job at risk. Despite the proximity of his office to her home, the challenges of walking and traveling post-injury complicate seeking care elsewhere. This became even more difficult due to the negative comments and the false hope of weight loss leading to surgery.

Conclusion:
Dr. Hahn's approach could have been more kind and encouraging. If he believed my mother was not a suitable candidate for surgery or was unwilling to invest more time, he should have communicated this earlier, ceased care immediately, and referred her to a more positive and optimistic healthcare professional. Instead, he led her on for months, creating false expectations. As a family, we are now seeking care elsewhere, hopeful for a more compassionate and understanding approach to my mother's health concerns.

*Note: This review is unusual for me, but my mother's pain and the provider's crossing of boundaries, such as suggesting a mental health evaluation due to her crying after being scolded and degraded for her weight, has compelled me to share this experience.* πŸ˜”βœ¨

I never do reviews but I feel that Dr Joseph Hahn deserves this review he is by far the worst doctor that I have ever dealt with he was very unprofessional and show no empathy and no concern about my condition I have not been able to work for over a week due to not being able to perform my duties because of my condition and the slow process of getting my appointments scheduled for a visit to him while showing him the mobility to which the pain was intense he then grabs it and applies a considerable amount of pressure adding extreme pain after letting a yell out because of the pain he immediately told me that he would write a prescription for a cream but when I got to the pharmacy the prescription turned out to be naproxen not a cream after leaving his office I immediately went to another doctor that ordered X-rays right away and is working on treating my condition just as Joe should have done I would not have given one star but I had to so I could post this to let others know that if you are concerned about your health and your future I highly recommend that you find a different doctor
