I am not sure where to begin. I thought I might start with saying this is my first review or post ever, so this is not a thing for me. I am posting this simply in hopes of helping other families to make informed decisions in their loved ones' care.
My mother 77 years old with late stage Alzheimers went to the Hellenic nursing home in August after a hospital stay and concerns our family were running out of options to continue to work full time and manage mom's increase in need. My family does not have much in terms of financial means, however I will say we are a pull together bunch, no matter the challenge and our personal experience at the Hellenic nursing home was not one that gave us any sense of relief during her 2 and half month stay. After making every attempt to work together to collaborate with the administrative nursing and direct care team, we took her home to figure it out.
I will not report there were no attempts to try as I do think there are some wonderful staff . I think its a shame there is not more staff, more training for staff in caring for alzheimers patients and their behaviors, more innovative ways to create space for true individualized care planning and sharing of the plans and maybe more self care opportunities for staff.
Our experience was one where we were present every single day. Am and Pm.
Most visits lasted hours in length.
We found on most occasions her sitting in her own urine and feces, with terrible rashes . We advocated for the multidisciplinary team approach in hope of building an allyship and told care planning was a part of the model only to find we had to pay for a copy of the plan and also continue to find our mother in the same condition and told day after day she is combative, will not take her medication and or allow staff to help her change.
We received calls during the day to inquire where we were.
It was a bit unsettling as the conversations were short and to the point . Leaving us feeling bad and what more can we do . The showing up at 5am for labs, leaving work when we could to support a need, managing 90 % of hygiene care and making every attempt to support staff with ideas on how to approach, things that work , her likes, dislikes, favorite music, drawing attention to her rings, etc, etc were not enough. When we advocated, it appeared it was taken personally, and that was not the intention as I am one that is going to feel bad for my next statement but for us, it was/ is personal, and the compassion at times was lacking.
We thought we had asked all the right questions beforehand. I guess I would suggest asking more.

My wife has been a resident of Hellenic Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for over ten years.
Our children and I couldn’t be happier with the way the staff has taken care of her. We FaceTime every week and it really helps us to keep in touch with her, and for her to remain in our family life.
Everyone at Hellenic is always very professional and caring, and we feel blessed.

I recently transferred my mother to this facility and from day 1 we noticed a big difference in care and attention to detail with the residents. My mothers clothes, hair and nails are clean and regularly done without having to ask. She has also gained 3 lbs in 1 month which is fantastic. The staff is friendly and considerate of our loved one needs, wants and treat her with respect.

In the three months my Mom has been there, there has been a 360-degree improvement. Her care, comfort, and attention are peace of mind compared to her previous place, where chronic short staffing led to her becoming quiet. I love the Zoom calls that are in place, the activities for her to participate in, and the staff. The staff treats her respectfully and kindly, which has made her more talkative. I am pleased to have her in their care.

I’d like to leave a review here bc the care my family member received was very good. The people in charge were amazing. She was there a short while, but when it counted they were all there for her. It started with Lisa from the office who recommended this place to us. Then we were met with the director of admissions who welcomed us and helped us the day we moved her in. The 1st week was tough but it only got better from there. The head nurse was beyond nice and so were all the nurses. The PT girl Cheryl, amazing! Social Worker also! I felt their compassion as they shared their stories with us as our loved one was declining and needed hospice. Also Linda at the front desk couldn’t hv been any nicer. I think I said it all.

All the staff, especially in the dementia unit made my mother's stay wonderful! For close to a year, the nurses, CNA, administration, & therapy kept her encouraged and comfortable. Her room and the facility were always clean and her food was very good. The dementia section is highly rated as I saw first hand their care for all their patients. Also the staff helped my brother and I through this phase of our mother's life and she was thankful to be taken care off. It is a very caring place and highly recommended!

I am posting this to express my grave concerns regarding the level of care provided to my wife Judy during her recent stay at helenic nursing and rehab. Unfortunately I must convey my disappointment and outrage at the neglect and substandard treatment she experienced during her three month residency. As you are aware,my wife was admitted to hellenic nursing and rehab following a broken ankle and multiple surgeries for a wound site infection. The expectation was that she would receive the necessary care and attention to facilitate her recovery. However, it has become painfully evident that the level of care provided fell far short of acceptable standards, resulting in serious repercussions for her health and well being. One of the most egregious examples of negligence occurred when my wife developed an untreated urinary tract infection during her stay at your facility. Despite exhibiting clear symptoms and expressing discomfort, her condition went unnoticed and untreateated by you staff ultimately.Necessitating her hospitalization for proper medical intervention.the failure to promptly address and treat a uti,is not only inexcusable but also poses serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable people such as my wife.it is unconscionable that such a basic and preventable medical issue was allowed to escalate to such a critical extent under your care.Furthermore, throughout her time at hellenic nursing and rehab my wife experienced numerous instances of neglect, inadequate supervision, and a lack of basic necessities from delayed medication administration to substandard hygiene practices. The level of care provided fell woefully short of what she deserved as a resident under your supervision. It is imperative that you take immediate and decisive action to address these systemic failures and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. This I hope includes conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding my wife.s untreated uti, implementing robust protocols for the detection and management of infections, and providing comprehensive training for your staff to ensure the highest standard of care for all residents. My wife is my everything and I demand accountability for the negligence and substandard treatment she endured during her time at hellenic. Furthermore, I expect a formal response from your facility outlining the steps you will take to rectify these issues and prevent their recurrence in the future. Failure to address these concerns may leave me with no other choice but to pursue further action to ensure that justice is served and that other residents are spared from similar suffering. I eagerly await your prompt response and action on this matter. Sincerely, William sprague
