I called billing in the AM reagrding a bill (obviously) and was on hold for 25 mins. Hung up thinking they were busy in the AM. Called back at approx 2:30 and was on hold for 55 mins. Not an exaggeration! I timed it on my cell phone. Finally, because it was Friday, I decided no one was working!! If that's the case, there should have been a recording advising of same. Otherwise, this is the worst billing department I have ever dealt with!

They tell you they will call you back within 3 business days.. but never do. Also every time I call I get a slightly different story and most recently was told that the previous person I spoke with wasn’t in California so they told me the wrong info I guess if you’re employed by John Muir but work from out of state you are given different information than if you’re sitting in Walnut Creek answering phones. I’m just about to say forget it and just not pay my debt until someone can call me back. What a scam.

If I could give zero stars I would. Brandon was rude and short with my questions. I overpaid by $546 and trying to get a refund is impossible. Do not pay your John Muir bill until you talk to your insurance company. Total scam.

Great experience with John Muir medical staff but the billing for kids is a nightmare. They only allow one parent to see/pay bills (they refer to this as “the guarantor”) and they constantly switch which parent without informing you. This causes a parent to see a $0 total when in fact there’s an outstanding and late $800 bill that no one knows about. Calling to change the guarantor takes months and they try to convince you it was never changed.
They also treat you like a criminal trying to steal children’s medical information even though all you’re trying to do is pay for the treatment you brought your kid in for.

The only reason I'm giving them a one star, is because I can't give them zero Stars. They charged me for two Band-Aids one squirt of glue and a small piece of gauze and 15 minutes of their time, are you ready for this? $3,366.75.
I KID YOU NOT!
We are talking no stitches, my 14 year old cut her finger washing dishes, and my ex-wife chose to bring her to emergency. Airing on the side of caution I don't blame her, but the reality is if I bought a small pack of Band-Aids for $5 a small pack of gauze for $5 in a crazy glue for $10, and they get to keep all of the leftovers because it doesn't take much obviously, how can one justify 3,366.75 ? Needless to say I am livid with anger, and I have chosen to shout it out to the planet how horrible they are charging the exorbitant prices that they charge.
I advise everybody in the Bay Area to stay away from them, unless you're rich!
I am a union sheet metal worker working out of San Francisco and my union refuses to pay this and I'm going to get stuck with it again! They have done this before charging such prices that my union refuses, it goes to collections, and then I have to pay out of pocket after paying on average $28,000 a year for my benefits. $14 an hour, for healthcare and then I have to deal with these rip-off artists charging me $3,366.75 for two Band-Aids one scored of crazy glue and a little piece of gauze! She said she got 15 minutes of attention on the wound and it took them 15 minutes to sign him in so for a half hour of their time and using no operating rooms no facilities whatsoever other than a basic chair for her to sit in I forced to pay this
I truly hate what the system has turned into. There is no justification for this price. Just straight-up greed! Don't go here if you can avoid it.

I would have given negative stars if there was an option.

Just like other reviews here, I had a similar experience - Rude doctors, system glitches, billing errors and nobody to follow through. I am trying to correct a incorrect billing for 3 months and they have still not corrected it. There is no way to escalate this issue either. Absolute horrible customer experience.

Avoid this hospital at all cost.

Update : Feb 6 2024... even after 14 months, the issue is still not resolved. Horrible Hospital / People.

Please post your review at the location you went too. No one checks billing reviews location. Post on social media. Check back an keep posting cause they will find a way to remove it.

John Muir's medical facilities are top-notch but their billing team is completely incompetent to the point where I'm considering leaving this medical group altogether because of how poor their billing system is. Egregious errors that take forever to fix, no person you can call and talk to in billing-- you can't even leave billing a voice-mail. They're crooks.
