Great medical Care here !!! Had a procedure done here way back in the early 80s but went to the zoo first. The best zoo I've ever been to inside the US. The zoo was right across the street from the entrance to the Balboa Naval Station Hospital as it was known then I believe. That's what it said in the basement where my cousin worked in the mail room while he was in the Navy and I was in the Marines.

Nursing staff were overall kind, helpful & attentive.. Doctors, however, were not. Doctors were extremely uneducated about my chronic illness & hid behind the scenes w/out reason or explanation as to why they were trying to administer medication that could potentially worsen my condition — keeping me out of the loop of what my results from testing & procedures were + having me sit in my room for hours w/out an update. Instead, they would sent corpsmen & nurses to administer medication + draw blood for labs they had no clue about (I know they had no clue because I would ask them and they would either say 1. they don’t know why, its just bc doctors ordered it or 2. they would explain the basic function w/out knowing the effects it could have on my condition & so I would have to sit there and explain to them why before declining). Doctors here should sit down and educate themselves for a minute on a patients condition even if they are unfamiliar with it. Having improper care = potential, unnecessary & preventable injuries + fatalities. I’m grateful to be well educated when it comes to my chronic illness, because I guarantee you if someone else with a chronic illness wasn’t — they would end up staying admitted for more days or even weeks having to recover from the mess that the doctors themselves created.
Need basic care? Sure. Need proper, well-versed professional care? Do not recommend.

This was my last duty station when I medically separated from the navy and it was awful. Met so many military personnel who were actively using illegal substances and cheating the system. That hospital is a JOKE to say the least

If I could, I would give this place zero stars. They constantly drop the ball with communication. They don't respond back on the MHS Genesis Portal after they've read your message. They don't know what a validation assessment tool is and have constantly sent the wrong forms so we've had to fax them ourselves. It's been a month and our son STILL hasn't received speech and occupational therapy because they don't know how to check emails or update you. The referral department sent a referral form and follow up email to the doctor over a month ago and still NOTHING. I have called for status updates and verifications to the referral, autism, and pediatric departments for the last month. At this point, I doubt our son will actually receive the services he needs to help with his autism. Worst place for pediatric help when your child is autistic.

Back in November of 2019, my daughter and wife both came down with an infection that nearly killed them. They were both treated here and put in a medically induced coma. My daughter was in a coma for 6 days, and my wife 16 days. At the time, they didn't quite know what was going on. I believe it was the 1st wave of COVID19. I will forever be thankful to the people, nurses, doctors, therapists, and support staff in this hospital. They did the seemingly impossible and kept them alive. They were absolutely amazing. Yes, we all don't have the same experiences, but I will forever be thankful and satisfied with their service and professionalism.

My brothers and sister, if you have real shit real life emergency just look up on YouTube what to do. These guys take like 4 hours to see you from the second you walk in the door. It is kind of hard to not be mad when you walk out and all the staff is on their phones. I swear this place just gives you a room and makes you wait so you can get impatient and just leave . The navy needs to take their medical field more seriously! Please

I’m not sure who to reach out to for infant mishandling. I was at the postpartum unit and some “nurse” named KARA kept getting an attitude when I needed help or the fact that I was tired and would ask for help. When the iv was placed in my arm, I asked if she could help me. I guess she didn’t like that and literally with no exaggeration starts beating on my 2 week olds back. I mean straight beating him and I know he didn’t like it cause he squirmed. I then said “you don’t think that’s too hard” and she said no they like it but obviously had stopped. She then told me after I kept falling asleep feeding and asked for their help that if I don’t figure it out she wouldn’t feel comfortable sending my baby home with me. Basically threatened to call CPS. I can’t believe I let some joke of a nurse beat my baby cause she had an attitude I asked for help burping after the IV was placed. I made an ICE COMPLAINT BUT NOTHING. WHO DO I REACH OUT TO? If she beat him so hard in front of me I keep wondering what she did behind me. I feel such guilt. There’s levels to this but I promise you I’m not exaggerating. Thinking about it makes me cry so much.

I wasn't going to leave a review but after reading a few for the ER! I changed my mind... The one that I read that the last waited 3 hours for her daughter to been seen at the ER! It depends on the emergency! If someone having a heart attack, they get emitted immediately if you have a bad cough! Of course your going to have to wait! Do you not understand how the ER works?! It sounds like your one of these special snowflakes!

I have taken my mom to the ER a few times and she is an absolute nightmare to deal with! She has a lot of mental issues! The staff were MORE then helpful! I was very thankful that the staff was was very respectful and more then willing to help! Even with my mom falling and considering she 90 years old! She had to wait close to 2 hours! However, they did send a doctor out to the waiting room to see how server the injuries were...they wanted to know if they had to transfer her to a different ER.aftee two hours, she was finally admitted! The total time I spent at the ER was 6 hours! So if you expect to get in and out of an ER! GOOD luck! 😂 ER waits times are always horrible! Sometimes I would if people stop thinking?!
