I'm really grateful firstly to God and secondly' to Newport Avocado house. I was very pleased with this location because every staff member was a blessing to my granddaughter and myself. She loved the environment and the attention she received in helping her gain tools she needed to cope with the emotional issues she has experienced in life. It's hard to single out individuals because everyone was great, but Tom, her personal therapist, and John the family therapist imparted greatly into her life. I never felt anything other than support, genuine concern and care for her. Everyone I talked to demonstrated great regard for me as her grandma/guardian as well. Everyone was easy to talk to. When it was time to pick her up, she cried deeply. Even though she didn't want to leave, it was time for her to stand on the new tools she received. We've been able to get through things much better than before. Now she sees more value in her life! Thanks Avocado house for doing a great job. I miss yall too. Tell the Chef I miss her cooking even though I never tasted any, but I heard about the gourmet meals😄

They continue to reach out to us to check on us since leaving almost 4 mos ago. The support continues even after treatment discontinues....maybe not "discontinue" because that is still a form of therapy.

Newport is amazing!! While the process was extremely stressful and difficult due to insurance Newport was very communicative throughout the whole process and beyond. My daughter was there for three weeks and had to leave because of insurance. Still four months later they are following up to see how she is doing and sending me recommendations on how to get her help locally. There truly isn’t enough thank yous! I will forever recommend Newport to anyone!

I hope that other parents will read my review. Before sending my son to Newport, I devoured myself in research for the best place, and chose to take a risk and ignore some bad reviews. Since my son has returned home, I can say this – I simply do not personally understand the negative reviews. I’ve taken much time to write the review below because I believe it’s so important.

I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the incredible transformation my 17-year-old son underwent during his time at Newport Academy in Camarillo, CA. Over the past year, he had been grappling with substance abuse and acute depression, and it had become a heartbreaking (and almost fatal) struggle for our family. However, Newport turned out to be a beacon of hope in our darkest times.

From the moment we arrived, Newport exceeded our expectations in every possible way. Here are some of the reasons why I highly recommend this facility:

Exceptional Family Therapy with John: One of the standout features of Newport was the dedicated & compassionate (and funny) family therapist, John. His unwavering support and commitment to our son's recovery were truly out of this world. Even on his off days, he went above and beyond to provide guidance and reassurance to our family. John's expertise and empathy played a crucial role in our son's healing process. I should mention here that my son expressed great things about each of his therapist, but we got to know John because he was the family therapist.

From Resistance to Immersion: Initially, my son fought against the program and expressed a strong desire to come home - I felt like defeat was consuming me. However, their patient and caring approach gradually helped him shift his perspective. He went from resistance to full immersion (“surrender” as he called it) in the program, which was instrumental in his remarkable progress.

Incredible Outdoor Therapeutic Activities: Newport's approach to therapy is holistic, and the outdoor therapeutic activities were nothing short of incredible. The environment at the facility itself, nestled in the beautiful Camarillo area, played a significant role in my son's progress. Engaging in these activities allowed him to connect with nature and find a sense of peace that had eluded him for so long.

Personalized Celebrations: Newport's attention to detail when it came to celebrating milestones, including birthdays, was heartwarming. They made one of the kid’s birthday away from home truly special by bringing in presents and his favorite foods – my son was MORE than delighted to share all his good food, ha! These gestures not only showed their commitment to each individual but also contributed to a positive and nurturing environment.

Compassion During Grief: Tragedy struck our family while my son was away, as he lost his grandfather. The way Newport responded to this difficult situation touched my heart deeply, especially the house CCs. Thank you, thank you for those who took him to get his hair cut and to ride skateboards at the beach – he told me every kind word they said to him, and they are FOREVER in my gratitude. Forever. Their compassionate and supportive approach during this challenging time is something I will forever appreciate. They ensured my son had the emotional support he needed to process his grief and continue his journey to recovery.

A Rekindled Light: Perhaps the most remarkable outcome of my son's stay at Newport was the return of his inner light. He emerged from his time there with a newfound zest for life. The transformation was nothing short of miraculous, and I credit them for helping him rediscover his potential and purpose.

Commitment to Continued Care: After my son returned home last week, we transitioned to Newport outpatient program, despite the logistical challenges of daily commute (and believe me, it's a nightmare). The decision was easy because we recognized that they are genuinely worth the effort.

So many thanks, Newport.

Our 14-year old daughter suffered a trauma several years ago but the effects of the trauma didn’t surface until the pandemic. They felt empty and emotionally disregulated. The emotions presented itself through self-harm, isolation, school refusal, suicidal ideation and an overdose. Everyday that passed, my husband and I lived in fear wondering when the next shoe would drop.

We tried everything - individual therapy, medication, DBT, hospitalization and accupuncture.
Thankfully, our daughter pressed us for residential treatment. After much research, we decided on Newport since it came highly recommended by a close friend.

Once we decided, the process was seamless. We were surprised by the amount of support and communication for both parents and child. Every person at Newport, from the residential clinical team to the administrative side was extremely responsive. As an alumni, that support has not wavered one bit.

We are so grateful to Newport for saving our daughter’s life. She left a different person; truly transformative. They aspire to become a therapist one day and hopes to work at Newport in the future!

This is big business healthcare. Not recommended. Do your research before you sign your kiddo into this place. Some of their staff shows signs of being unstable (crying like a baby during meetings and phone conversations) and the services are far from what is advertised on the flashy web site.
- inconsistent therapy services
-lack of skilled staffing
-high turn over of critical staff
-psychiatrists based out of state

Took us over 3 months to get a final billing. They put my kid on a medication that appears to have long term side effects. They housed my kiddo w only one other and that child appeared to have serious anger issues. My kiddo came home in bad shape. BEWARE.

This is how Americans are being served healthcare-wise and HUGE multinational corporations are taking advantage of us and our vulnerabilities. Look it up. Owned by Canadian giant Onex Partners and there are numerous bad reviews all over the web. Gotta keep these Onex investors happy though. Keep those instagram addicted children coming.

It’s not an easy experience, but a worthwhile one. Kids work with caring staff and both they and parents certainly get the support they need. Highly recommended for mood dysregulation, suicidality, and severe anxiety and/or depression.

Get everything in writing. Dealing with the billing and finances and insurance has been a complete nightmare. Don’t sign anything without reading it thoroughly. They appear mostly motivated by profits. They will make it hard for your child to use substances or self-harm, but their business practices do not seem direct, honest, and clear.
