during the family history inquiry, one of the providers (riley) assumed my child's father and other family members died of drugs- looking at me "oh was it drugs" -which it was not, we were answering the question of heart disease and i could not help but think it is due to my child's mixed race. it was highly insensitive as my child has lost her father but i believe it was an implicit bias this provider has on Black people.

and they have this art of white jesus in their lobby where he is sitting with children, the white children surrounding him and as the children get farther away from jesus they get darker. i understand this can be seen as harmless but given the history of slavery in the U.S. and the excuses white slavers used to enslave African people it is giving white supremacy.

they also will not provide birth control to a 17 yo- like what? they wanted us to pick it up from the pharmacy and bring it to them to administer, which was going to cost me $70 because my insurance wasn't going to cover for the medication through the pharmacy, it is paid for when filled and administered in the doctor's office.

i do not believe this is a safe place for everyone. a safe place for white people (maybe, my 17 yo is not mixed and couldn't get the care she needed) but overall it is one of those providers that lets their religion and worldview dictate the level of care provided to patients. we have moved on because it is simply not a safe space. if you care about equality you should not pay this medical group a dime.

I called the after hours line on Sunday at 3 PM to get advice on giving Tylenol and Motrin to my 7-month-old baby who has been sick for 5 days now. Google mentioned Tylenol toxicity poisoning from giving it too many days in a row so I called the pediatrician to get guidance on how not to harm my baby. It is now 11:30 a.m. on Monday and I still haven't received a call back even though the answering service said it would be about a 30 minute wait. Thankfully I was able to call our old pediatrician where we lived before to get the help I needed.

Our 6-month appointment wasn't much better. We saw Rebecca who didn't seem to care much. I let her know that my baby was born in the first percentile for weight and height and was wanting to know where he was now and if he was growing properly. I was told that she would look at his next appointment (9 months) to see how his numbers fall on a curve. The issue with that is I had all of his measurements from when he was born and every appointment he's had up until that point that she could have used to compare and make a curve, but she didn't want to do that. So pretty much having to wait between his 4-month appointment and 9-month appointment to see if he's growing adequately which I think is unacceptable.

I was also hoping to keep my baby on the same brand/schedule of vaccines he was already on. When I was told they were going to change schedules, I told the nurse I wanted to talk to the doctor about switching, and was told that the doctor doesn't handle vaccines, that the nurses do that, however he couldn't answer any of my questions. The lead nurse came in and gave some good information, but ended up telling me that they don't carry that type because their drug rep gets mad if they carry competing brands, and to contact Butte County Public Health to get it. #1 that's concerning that the doctor doesn't handle/discuss vaccinations #2 it's concerning they are carrying specific vaccines based on a drug rep vs updated recommendations of the CDC, and #3 Butte County Public Health doesn't work like that. BCPH only provides vaccinations to people without insurance, and we have private insurance. I ended up spending 4 hours calling around and drove to Yuba City to get the vaccination. When talking to another mom friend this is not an isolated incident and she was also told by Paradise Pediatrics to go to Butte County Public Health for vaccine they didn't want to provide.

I left two stars because the front desk receptionists were friendly and helpful. I'm very disappointed in this office and the lack of care they provide. Sucks that there aren't many options in Chico for pediatricians.

My daughter has been seeing doctors here since birth (because it’s a toss up on who will be seeing you.) About half of our appointments have been cancelled the day of the appointment. It’s extremely hard to plan for them only to be called hours beforehand and told they need to reschedule. They also left us in a room for nearly an hour because they “forgot” they had told us there was still something we needed and they would be right back in.

Poor time management, 45 minute to an wait every time before being seen. Seems this was managed much better when in Paradise site. Unfortunate because the doctors are very good but makes it hard when you have little ones getting impatient. To top it off , the nurse has a shaky hand for the shots making it hurtful. Time to find a new doc.

Was in and out with family, shots were done professionally and quickly. Very kid friendly with a kids TV show and toys in the waiting room. Professional and excellent work.
