On the 2.September, having just arrived for our vacation, from Germany, my husband suffered a collapse and we ended up at the emergency unit at the Providence Alaska Medical Center. Despite it being Labor Day we were dealt with quickly, efficiently and with great kindness. All the staff we met including Dr. Kim and Nurse Krista and all of the other staff, were great. Thank you for being thorough, listening to us and giving my husband the best care. Thanks to you, we were able to start our vacation with peace of mind and new energy. We highly recommend this medical facility!

When in there when I was profusely committing blood once and the secretary that collects the insurance information proceeded to yell at me while I was in the bathroom trying to direct my vomit into the bathroom toilet. She was practically screaming at me, because I couldn't respond to her screaming out her questions to me. Then it hit me, they assumed that because I looked Alaskan Native, they assumed I was drunk and sick from drinking too much alcohol. Well I had t had a single drink that day and I hardly ever drink. It wasn't until they got my blood work back, that clearly showed I had zero alcohol in my system. It was determined that I might have had food poisoning. Same place, I took my daughter to emergency, and we were so scared for her life. The employees told me to come in and leave my car parked there by the door. As the medical personnel was checking on my daughter, I asked if I should move my car, they said they preferred that I stayed in the room with my kid. Finally, after a very long time, they tell me to go move my car. As I get close to the exit door, I see a few police and a dog just leaving my car, like they were searching my car and had a drug dog sniff my car. When I got to my car, my doors were unlocked, so I assume they had searched my car and had it sniffed inside. I don't use drugs and I don't abuse alcohol, so I'm not concerned about that at the time. Eventually after things settle down with my daughter, and my wife came and joined us, after many hours in the middle of the night, they find nothing wrong, and finally release us. I think the heavy police presence and racial, negative stereo typing that goes on there is abhorrent! They are careful about not saying anything obvious, but they have treated me like I am some criminal, without verbally saying they think I am one. Going there for emergency care, after hours, is definitely a mostly negative experience with the staff, as most of the time I've felt racially profiled and abused. If I go in for scheduled appointments, I usually have a much better experience that anyone should expect, but over the decades, the people who staff the emergency reception area and the cops are not usually people I feel comfortable around, in my experiences of around 40 years total, going there.

I’ve relied on the excellent group of caregivers at Providence for years to take great care of me and my family. From imaging, emergency room visits, surgeries and extended stays in their state of the art NICU, there is never a time I haven’t been unbelievably grateful to have such an incredible health care center to depend on. They’ve mastered medicine but also compassion, which is sometimes not the case in healthcare facilities. I’ve never had to wait long for any service and my questions are always answered thoroughly and with smiles. Today I needed a scan and was fortunate to have Dylan taking care of me but most every staff member there has made me feel completely comfortable. On a side note, I’ve spent a lot of time in their cafeteria and gift shop, both unexpectedly impressive. The gift shop has a cadre or dedicated volunteers who work there along side the regular employees, which is always wonderful to see. In fact, there are many volunteer opportunities that Providence has created to allow the community to help those who might be in need. They also have a Subway, pharmacy and a couple of coffee shops in the building. When you are there for extended periods, having these services really makes a difference. They maintain a beautiful chapel open to the public and plenty of quiet places for visitors who need a moment to sit and reflect to find on each floor. Providence is proud of their employees, the services they offer and their presence in Alaska, and well they should be.

If I could give 0 stars I would. They were rude and told my nurse multiple times the Iv that they couldn’t get to work was hurting and I hit the nurse button multiple times and they never came. One nurse finally took it out after I said I was going to loose it. It hurt so bad. The nurse released me, but left me hooked up to the heart monitor and the finger monitor and the blood pressure cuff. Right before switch over that nurse was amazing but after switch over my nurse was rude and didn’t care. My nurse also wasn’t wearing gloves most the time either. Worst hospital experience and I will never go there again.

I have been seeing my caregiver for approximately 15 years now! I’m very grateful to be with Providence senior care. I feel like I’m at the best place, and I can always be assured that I’m getting the best of care! Thank you, Megan Engler ❤️‍?

Went to the emergency department after four days of almost comstant coughing and strange pain in both feet. I never got a room and waited in the hallway on a stretcher for quite awhile after being screened to see an actual doctor. What I got was an inexperienced kid who prescribed nothing for my cough and agreed that the x-rays of my feet looked strange. He asked if I had had acupuncture therapy. I hadn't. I was released shortly thereafter with nothing for my cough and no advice on what to do about my feet. Later I got a $5,500 emergency room bill. My insurance paid only half. I called billing and protested paying the rest because of a total and complete lack of remedy for my cough or my painful feet, which showed some kind of damage on X rays.
