It's a good place for great staff. They listen, are caring and knowledgeable. However if I just rate the accommodations for the disabled, we'll that's 1/2 a star for poor accommodations according to Federal Guidelines for Americans with Disabilities Act or ADA accommodations. When you arrive to the handicapped parking lot, whether it's the front lot or back lot, there's no parking spaces. The parking spots are taken up by cars with no handicapped stickers or plackards, forcing people who are really handicapped to be placed in a really painful situation. This effected both my fiance and myself who are both disabled
We were told we should and can call the police, by a staff member. I feel security should do this. I just wanted to get to my appointment. However, security in both lots refused. Also there's no wheelchair availability for those who need one at the front desks. This is also an ongoing problem. This causes the disabled pain and or missed appointments. Neither of which are optimal for the health of disabled. I, for one ended up with quite a bit pain and I would be grateful if the administors would pay attention to what's going on in their hosital. Please.

Besides their outside environment always smell with Marijuana, their terrible services leave us no choice but change our OB to other hospitals. My wife and I just can't believe the fact that there is NO ASSIGNED OB for my wife, meaning my wife had to be seen by different doctors each time she came..... The worst part is they don't allow me as her husband to be in the clinic room with her. I remember one time she came out and told me that OB made her bleeding for her normal check up. No nurse or any staff notified me about this situation of my wife, nor any apologies... I'm so sicken of this kind of attitude and entitlement of health care system here.

This hospital is proof that there is no healthcare system in this country. I went to the emergency room because of cramps and pain due to my pregnancy, and I waited for 7 hours. After finally being taken into the emergency room, I kept waiting, so I left and asked for my registration to be canceled. They kept telling me to wait because the doctor would come, and I waited another half-hour inside. It was truly a nightmare. If your day is 48 hours long, then you can come here.

Updated 3/17/25: Carmen in call center is fantastic!!!💙 Patient, communicative, professional. Why the hospital has 2.7 stars on review? Hmmm. Just shows you how ungrateful or spoiled people can be. Makes no sense! And, I went to ER for myself yesterday… and was seen in less than 15min. Will it be longer sometimes Absolutely!! Welcome to life. Then again, I’m a republican: take better care of yourself!! No choice? Pick better loved ones! No choice? Change your attitude! 🤣

Update, 1/23/24. Stars still stay!:) Mom had to be admitted. Take care of her daily and wanted a night off…. but couldn’t rest not talking to her. Nurse in 2A made it happen with the phone, entirely polite and helpful! Ease my mind, moms said no worries. All is well.
Thanks, SMMC!!!
Just came from my second trip to the ER and I don’t know what everybody’s problem is but this place is great !!! I was seen quickly. Nurses and NP, were awesome, (and pretty;-). (Ariana n Catrina:)
Took care of my needs, gave exactly what I wanted. I was out of there in an hour .
For Rob Robinson:
I was/been in a panic getting my moms meds in order post-stroke. The facility answers their phone and while it took a minute to get my concerns resolved…. It is being resolved!🙏 Thats all one can ask for. Elyna/Elaina is awesome. Gracias!!!

This was the worst hospital experience I have ever had. On February 15, I went to the hospital to pick up my sister. While waiting in line, the staff yelled, "NEXT!" I walked to the counter, and the way the staff member spoke to me was entirely uncalled for. I explained that I was there to see my sister, but he showed no care or concern, which was evident in how he treated me. Unfortunately, I didn’t catch his name amidst all the chaos.

My sister was going through a mental health episode, and it broke my heart to see her like that. Despite her condition, they released her and told me there was nothing they could do. Thankfully, she ended up going to Mills Hospital, where she received the proper care she needed.

Nurse Christine was amazing! Definitely give that miss a raise because she is so helpful and cheerful! A literal gem! She was not even my nurse and she made my experience there 100 times better! Totally went above and beyond to make everyone feel better. Everyone was pretty nice but she took the cake tonight.

I have been there twice now. Once for me, and once for my partner. The CHERRY ON TOP for this center was that they were able to provide us with emergency medi-cal. We found out at the end out visit that the coverage we had was expired. But with their help EVERYTHING WAS COVERED at no cost to us. Visiting the ER is scary and most often times painful; for you and your wallet. San Mateo County Medical Center helped us at every scary turn. Keep up the great work team. Y'all are really heros for keeping the community happy and healthy!

UNLESS. The staff is so rude and the parking is a nightmare. I could not find parking for 15 minutes and why do they have an online check-in when you have to do it again!!? Additionally they make you wait so long like what the heck, there’s a set appointment for a reason.

First, understand public medical centers are very different from private or even university facilities.
RRSCC at this facility is one of the very best geriatric clinics - many seniors, with private insurance as well as MediCal or Advantage plans have transferred their care from other clinics to be here. Caring professional staff, especially designed clinic - perfect.
Wait times can be long - especially in ER - but given the volume of trauma casas and severity of some, not unexpected .
As to insurance, SMMC takes all with or without and will work tirelessly to help with applications, benefits, etc.
And don’t be fooled by my name - I’m multi racial - and here, that matters not at all. And - no, I’m not an employee - just someone who what’s seen first hand both the excellent and the sometimes less than stellar and still appreciates all that SMMC does.
