St. Luke's Hospital - New Bedford, Massachusetts

Over the past two weeks my father was admitted to St Luke's twice due complications after a fall. I can't say enough about our entire family experience in the ICU and the 5th Floor teams. The nursing staff were incredibly responsive and compassionate. The Doctors were the same, thorough, responsive and compassionate. Made us feel that we were the complete focus of their attention and frankly I've never had an experience like that in other hospitals. Rita, the primary Nurse was exceptional. My elderly father felt safe and cared for by the entire team. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!

Second time going here. Both times the woman checking me in was INCREDIBLY disrespectful. This time I pointed it out and she “apologized” by rudely saying, “I’m sorry I thought I said excuse me.” First off, that’s not an apology. Second, you said excuse me when you got up and walked out of the room. That was AFTER you had already turned and started to talk to someone else while I was answering your questions. Third, you then gave me an attitude because I pointed out your behavior. It’s not just what you say, but how you say it as well.
She has a lack of tact when it comes to dealing with me. Not sure if it’s because of who or what I am. Or if she’s like this with everyone, but quite frankly she’s an entitled b. Had the audacity to question me over and over because I hadn’t had my period in three weeks. Like really? Yeah, lady. I’m lying about not being pregnant. Not sure how many times she has her period, but I have it once a month. And…OMG… sometimes it skips a month. Although, it hasn’t been a month yet. So idk. Maybe I should keep her updated since she’s so concerned.
Then I get back in RAZ and while everyone seems nice they were lacking in skills and the place was filthy. The nurse used gloves without washing his hands, and picked up stuff he dropped and still didn’t wash his hands or change his gloves. He also left the computer unlocked. Like fully unlocked. I went up to it to see if there was an additional login. Nope. He just left it open for anyone to see everyone’s info, if they chose. He also left meds in the tray and never administered them. Unless the sink needed reglan, because that’s where he squirted it after discharging me.
Oh, and the funky shhht on the remote…they never cleaned it off. Still don’t know if that is blood or rust. Either way it’s disgusting.
Then as I was leaving Ms. Sunshine was standing in the hallway by the exit and refused to move. Just stood there. Idk maybe thinking I’d say something. No ma’am. You don’t even deserve the breath it takes for me to say “excuse me.” Block as much as your body can. I can still fit around you. I don’t need to speak to you. Nor do I want to. People like that try to start shht and let me tell you, sweetie, you are lucky that was an ER because I am NOT the one. I came there for help. AND it’s not free either. So get your shht together before the world realizes you ARE dispensable. Never will I go to this hospital again.

I can't say enough about our experience today with our 16 year old daughter. We arrived to the ER at 8:20am my daughter was so sick almost passed out we were taken back within minutes. Her Katrina came in and was so attentive calm and kept my daughter calm. She explained everything, than Dr. Gallagher came in and a whole bunch of other people running test and everything. It was hectic but perfectly organized. From start to finish my daughter felt safe and ok. I can not say enough about our experience and I know each time is different but our nurse Katrina was absolutely amazing. I can not tell you enough about her kindness and compassion thank you Katrina if you ever see this!!

Dear New Bedford, you have an amazing hospital right at your fingertips. I recently spent some time there and have absolutely nothing to complain about.

My total wait time, including xrays and blood work, was less than 70 minutes (including nurse triage and physician evaluation). This is the epitome of efficiency - compare this to a recent 23 hours just to speak with someone at UMass Memorial in Worcester.

The rooms are clean, updated, and from the third floor I had a view. A few floors higher, and I would be able to see the ocean.

I would like to thank my care team: Dr. Bird, Dr. Zerpa, Madison the Endocrinologist, and an amazingly awesome nurse named Serena S. and her assistants Sierra & Tammy! Thanks to David in culinary for helping me pickout wonderful food.

You have all dedicated your lives to the medical field and helping others. The world is so very grateful for that choice. We are blessed by these choices.

Despite living 20 minutes from Boston, where the world praises it's amazing hospitals, but I would rather drive over an hour to travel to St. Luke's for my medical needs all day long!

STAY FAR AWAY FROM ST. LUKE'S THEY ARE UNACCEPTABLE AND INCOMPETENT!

I can't even begin to describe the horrific experience I had at St. Luke's Hospital. I was rushed in by ambulance at 11 p.m. in pain and needing care, and what did I get? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Not a single doctor came to see me, despite being there for hours. I waited and waited, only to be told that the doctor was “too busy” to see me. I was left completely ignored and treated like an inconvenience.

The nurse? She couldn’t have cared less. I was basically told I had to wait because the hospital staff was too understaffed and unprofessional to do their jobs. I was left alone for nearly 9 hours with NO medical attention.

This place is an absolute joke. Rude, dismissive, and negligent is an understatement. There’s no sense of urgency, no compassion, and clearly no understanding of what it means to treat a patient. It’s beyond clear that this hospital doesn’t care about your health they just want you to get out of their way.

DO NOT go here. I wouldn't trust them to treat a pet, let alone a person. St. Luke’s is a disgrace to healthcare.

This place is deplorable. Level 2 trauma center and they can’t even coordinate basic care or triage appropriately. Wouldn't work here for triple time. The nurses and staff alike are so rude and unhelpful. Nurse offering personal anecdotes about her health condition to relate to my symptoms without any diagnosis or doctor evaluation. Not professional. If you’re not bleeding out you will not be seen in any less than an entire shift of time in the ER. At least treat your patients symptoms while they wait for 6-8 hours. Floor nurses are even more careless so it is never a win-win even on admission. Several misdiagnoses. Need to learn my lesson and suffer a longer drive to where care can actually be rendered for acute situations.

Even though it was a long wait due to a lot of people being there, it was worth it. I almost left and I’m glad I did not the doctor. Nurses and staff were incredible. They knew what they’re doing and it would’ve been a very big mistake. Not getting the proper help and attention and care that I needed which they provided with professional as well as knowledgeable care if you have a serious problem, just stick it out and wait!

This place is sometimes good and sometimes bad, it depends on the staff and how busy they are. The doctors are generally friendly, but sometimes can't take a joke. Like when you glance over at medical supplies and ask for a "doggy bag". It probably has to do with all the addicts in New Bedford and their " med seeking" behavior.
