I recently went to the women’s medical center to try and get an iud, I called about a week or so prior to ask about pricing as I don’t have health insurance, was told the visit would be $100 and iud would be $45 WITHOUT insurance and I was told I didn’t need a pap smear or anything like that. Called again later that day to make the appointment, and I was told that I did need a pap smear in order to get the iud and it would cost extra, so I say okay and schedule my appointment. I go to my appointment and the nurse doing my intake vitals tells me I won’t get a pap smear because I’m under 21, even though the person I spoke with on the phone knew my age and told me I needed one for the iud. So then I spoke with the doctor about birth control and she tells me that the iud costs upwards of around $1000, obviously that’s not what I was originally told but I tell her I’m willing to pay that just to find out they don’t offer iuds to patients without insurance, she offers a different type of birth control but I say no because I want the iud so I’m told there’s no need for an exam unless I want to test for stds, which I did not. So essentially I paid $100 just to talk to the doctor and nothing else because I was given the wrong information multiple times. Everyone there was nice, but they need to make sure they’re telling patients the correct information so people don’t waste their money
